Santa Cruz Fruit Tree Project
A network of volunteers harvesting community surplus fruit trees and supporting tree planting and maintenance.
We have one space for a picker today at 8am in Happy Valley Area to pick over 200 lbs of pears in a small group. It's Friday, the 29th. I any one can get hold of me on a Private Message, we would love to have you.
Hey there fruit lovers,
Some of you may remember this event from the pre-COVID days. It ran for many years as a fund raiser for the Fruit Tree Project, and featured some drinks made with gleaned fruit from our events, and even food items like cured olives.
These days, the Fruit Tree Project is operating more informally, without any funding involved. So event proceeds will go to a different organization.
But we thought some of the people on this list might remember the event and want to know about it. Hope to see you there.
It has been six years, and we are excited to announce the 8th DIYine: A Celebration of Home-brewing!
Pronounced "D.I.Wine", this is a fun tasting event featuring a variety of beers, fruit wines, meads, liquors, and soft drinks, as well as food and music,
In past years we have offered plum port, sparkling cider, loquat amaretto, and feijoa wine alongside more standard beers and grape wines. We like to highlight the amazing concoctions that many of our fellow fruit lovers have toiled over and celebrate the bounty and joy of sharing the excess fruit of backyard harvests.
We also have a variety of oft drinks like kefir, kombucha, and our famous Breath of Fire ginger ale.
We are looking for DIY home-brewers and kitchen alchemists who have brews, ales, wines, ciders, meads or softdrinks to share. By contributing to the offerings, you get free tickets so you can taste the concoctions made by others.
Please reach out if you would like to be involved in the tasting event this spring. Right now we we are looking for donations of beverages, and later, once we firm up some details, we will also be looking for volunteers. Please let us know how you would like to be involved, and we will be in touch.
Please note: In the past, this event has been a fundraiser for the Santa Cruz Fruit Tree Project. This year it will be a benefit for a different non-profit, but we still hope some FTP gleaners who have been inspired by homebrew want to be involved.
Please email Stacy Falls for more info and for participating:

PICKED UP and are becoming JAM!!! A family on Westside has two large boxes of plums that they picked.
If you have a tree that is bursting and you would like your fruit not to go into the garbage....let us know!
It's the end of plums and on to apples!
From a Fruit Lover: There are a a bunch of Persimmon trees up at UCSC farm that they are not harvesting. AND there were a bunch of people helping themselves. Talking to one of them, who said that she talked to one of the farm workers: apparently not giving official ok to harvest but definitly encouraging people to pick the harvest. They are going to the birds right now. There is an orchard ladder right in the grove for people to use.

Anyone want this homemade solar food drier?
I'm moving and not taking it with me, happy to give it away if anyone wants it.
Works well but fruits often take 3 days to dry fully.
