On this African Liberation Day, we pay tribute to the resilience, brilliance, and unity of the African continent and its people. ✨

Dr. Maya Angelou’s deep connection to Africa was not just personal — it was political, spiritual, and cultural. In the 1960s, she lived and worked in Ghana, where she became an administrator at the University of Ghana, a feature editor for The African Review, a broadcaster for Radio Ghana, and a performer with Ghana’s National Theatre.

Her time in Ghana aligned with the rise of Pan-Africanism and the momentum of the anti-colonial movement. There, she joined a thriving community of African and African American thinkers, artists, and freedom fighters, including her collaboration with Malcolm X to envision global Black unity.

African Liberation Day is a call to remember that our struggles and our dreams are interconnected. Dr. Angelou’s legacy is a powerful reminder that cultural exchange, storytelling, and solidarity are essential tools of liberation.
