We’re over the moon celebrating Adia the Masai giraffe’s 12th birthday! 🚀🎂🦒

Adia turned 12 years old on a gorgeous Santa Barbara summer day today! Her birthday festivities included “out of this world” decorations in the giraffe yard, lots of tasty browse, and clear views of the Santa Barbara coastline.

Happy birthday, Adia!

Alt-text: First, we see a video clip of Adia the Masai giraffe chowing down on browse amidst the space-themed decorations in her habitat. Next, we see a picture of her party favors: Painted cardboard signs designed by her keepers that depict planets, stars, and spaceships. In the last two photos, Adia cautiously approaches the decorations before craning her neck lower to take a closer look.

Think Theo can’t reach that pile of acacia down there? Think again! 🌿🦒

Masai giraffes specialize in browsing, or feeding on vegetation up high in trees and tall shrubs. Should the occasion call for it, giraffes can also splay their forelegs out and lower their head to reach low-lying sources of food or water.

Can I offer you a carrot in this trying time? 🥕🦔

(We’re joking, of course, Miles the prehensile-tailed porcupine is 𝘯𝘰𝘵 sharing his delicious carrot!)

Splish, splash, the penguin pool had a bath! 🛀🐧

Our keepers were hard at work scrubbing the penguins’ favorite splash zone to make sure the colony has a sparkly clean pool for summer. Come check out their digs and see them dive into the deep end!💧
