INSIGHT:
Courtesy of Admin Jon W-r in an older interview that he had with Pike given near the end of the decade in the 1990s.

"It was totally different", he explained. "At first I believed it was just a normal book and wrote quite a bit of it, but I just wasn't that happy with it. So Magic Fire's period of gestation was quite a painful one. It was something of an exception though. Usually I'm not so off with my books," he said. "I start them and I know where I'm going with them."

INSIGHT: Admin Jon interviewed Pike and asked about the character, Marvin.

"I interviewed Pike years ago and asked him about the theories that Marvin was really him:
'I've been asked that a lot,' Pike laughs. 'Many people seem to think I'm Marvin, I think, because it's from the point of view of a writer and he had a lot of work methods that are the same as mine. But Martin was much more on edge than I am, a lot more unscrupulous. There are elements of me in him, but I like to think not too many.'
So there you go!! -- Admin Jon
