This week's Student Spotlight is: Ashley Novillo!
Fun fact: "I am Ecuadorian and I lived there for 2 years when I was younger."
Best moment in D.C. so far: "There is too many to choose from! My top best moments would be, seeing the monuments and going to the museums DC has to offer. Also, my best friend and I got to see Ozuna, a Spanish artist, in concert our first week here."
Best thing about your internship: "The best thing about my internship is that I get to attend meetings, webinars, and events from other organizations that advocate for youth justice. This is a great opportunity to be able to interact and network with people who specialize in creating a better future for our youth."
Thank you for participating!!

UCDC ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT:
Marissa Martin participated in the UCDC Program this past Fall 2018 and interned in the office of CA Representative Lou Correa.
Fun Facts: "I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and I studied abroad in Ghana last year!"
Best Moment in D.C.: "This was actually a little bit outside of D.C. but my best friend and I got to attend a concert in Fairfax, Virginia our first week here. Virginia is just a quick Metro ride away from D.C. and it was so cool to not only see one of our favorite artists live but to experience another city on the East Coast."
Best Thing About Interning: "Everyday is so different! One day I'm touring constituents at the Capitol, the next I may be going to briefings and hearings and writing memos for the staff members. I even got the opportunity to attend the Kavanaugh vote on the Senate side. I love that no two days are the same and that I get a full range of experiences on the Hill."
Thanks so much for participating, Marissa! If you know her FB, tag her for us please!

We are excited to announce our first Student Spotlight from the Winter 2019 Cohort: Cole Marting
Cole Marting is a UCSB Senior who majors in Political Science and is currently interning for Congressman Kevin McCarthy (CA - 23)!
Fun Fact: "I nearly landed a plane on a freeway in San Diego."
Best Moment in D.C. Far: "Visiting the National Law Enforcement museum in D.C. and seeing all the brave work the men and women in blue do to keep us safe."
Best Thing About Your Internship: "The best part of my internship is being a part of a smart, passionate, and hard working group that is helping make the California 23rd District a better place. Every day I get to work and know that I'm assisting the Republican leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives with implementing policies that have a positive and lasting impact on the lives of millions of Americans."
Thanks for participating, Cole! If you are a current or past UCSB UCDC participant, please directly message us so you can have your own Spotlight!

UCDC Alumni Spotlight
Cameron Costello is a UCSB third year History and Political Science Double Major who participate in the UCDC program this passed Fall 2018. She interned at the Office of CA Senator Dianne Feinstein.
Fun Fact: "I’m named after a basketball stadium."
Best moment in D.C.: "My first night in D.C., I met up with some of my friends from UCSB that were also in the program, and we ended up at the Lincoln memorial late at night. All the monuments are so beautifully lit at night and I was in awe that I was finally in D.C. I am still not used to the grandeur and history of every facet of this city."
What is the best thing about your internship: "My internship allows me to be on the front lines of much of the constituent interactions. I enjoy interacting with people from my home state on the phones, or via online and paper mail. Making sure constituents are heard is crucial to the operations of any Capitol Hill office and, among all my responsibilities, I value the task of constituent correspondence the most."
Thanks for participating Cameron! Welcome back to UCSB, we hope you had an amazing time!
