Many of the psychological states that we try to achieve through drugs and other means —like flow states, euphoria, ego dissolution—are available through the primal practice of dance.

Why do you feel so good after ecstatic dance? Because you’ve flooded your system with natural endorphins and oxytocin, and you’ve told that judgmental part of your brain to shut up for a while.

Thank you for such an epic welcome to Atlanta, and for trusting me to lead your 6th birthday celebration. Big love to and and all who worked so hard to make this marvelous event happen—I hope to be back soon ;)

🎶 After working on a release for many months, sometimes “getting the word out” can feel a bit like I’m shouting into a desolate wasteland…anyone relate?

🤖 The fact that an AI-assisted “producer” can generate and release 16 albums in a week, and then get algorithmically boosted on a platform like Spotify really seems to be helping matters!

💃 All kidding aside, I really do appreciate your support, both at in-person events and on the interwebs….

It’s simple. People want to belong. And our culture is so busy dividing us, it doesn’t provide us many opportunities to have that sense of belonging.

Festivals have been there to provide experiences of collective joy through music, group singing and dancing throughout all cultures for millennia. This new wave of festival culture is just a modern expression of the same urge to bring people together in Ancient Greece for the Festival of Dionysius or in Europe for Carnaval.

I firmly believe that in these confusing times , we need these experiences more than ever to strengthen social bonds and remind us of what it means to be human.
