Today a Berklee composition student who has been hiding inside a songwriter for a few decades got to come out and play for a while.
I’ve spent most of my career focused on songs—lyrics, melodies, stories, and singers.
Lately I’ve been exploring instrumental cues in Logic, creating mood and emotion without words. It’s a completely different process, and surprisingly freeing.
Today I finished a cue called Haunted. Whether it ends up anywhere or not, I’m having a great time discovering new creative tools and stretching different musical muscles.
Sometimes the best part of being an artist is remembering parts of yourself you haven’t visited in a long time.

One of my favorite things about making records is watching a song evolve.
What begins as a lyric, a melody, or a feeling slowly becomes something much bigger.
This was taken during the making of Nothing Left to Say, released today.

Before the final recording…Rehearsing vocals for “Coming Home,” co-written with longtime friend and collaborator Ivy Landsman Slevin.
Still love these imperfect in-between moments where songs are finding their shape.

Today I recorded a solo piano version of “Angels We Have Heard on High” for a film/TV holiday brief.
Funny enough, it brought me right back to 5th grade, when my music teacher, Mrs. Weinstein, assigned me a harmony part to sing for the school holiday concert. I think that may have been the moment I truly fell in love with music.
So… thank you Mrs. Weinstein. ❤️
