Sound Healing has been, quite simply, the most powerful tool for embodiment that I know aside from Tai Chi. When I say that it facilitates my embodiment, I mean that several years ago, I realized that I did not feel safe or at home or welcome in my body, but today I have a relationship with being in my body that is a partnership with wellness. To go from feeling like a stranger within my own life to discovering that I am the source of joy, sensuality, exploration and growth—I could not have known what lie ahead for me, beyond the blissful surrender into sound.

But it is also more than just a question of wellness. The cosmic creation that dances around us and inside us is mysterious, energetic, always moving. We are are made of the very impulse that excited the void of nothingness into existence. Vibration is the language of material existence. Sound Healing is a way for us to acknowledge that we are already harmonious with that vibrational universe, and to drop in and allow ourselves to be part of that flow, take a deep breath, and release whatever is holding us too tightly.

I do not like to call myself a Sound Healer. When you are in session with me and I am a Facilitator, I call you the Sound Healer, because you are taking your own experiences and using them to your benefit. May you be well as you learn to commune with the universe itself and feel your place in it as not just a member of its infinite cast of characters, but an essential part of the equation.

Well my brother is done being a full-time Mormon and is back to being a part-time Mormon. For those of you unfamiliar with the traditional practices of Mormonkind, this culture typically sends its young off to foreign countries for two years with little to no preparation in an attempt to frighten them away from leaving their colony in Utah ever again. From an anthropological perspective this is a kind of rite of passage which is not complete unless the youth in question brings home a large number of trinkets and souvenirs for their loved ones which can easily be integrated into Mormondom, namely neckties made with indigenous fabrics and patterns which can be worn by faithful Mormon churchgoers as a badge of pride, or statuettes of deities local to the culture visited which can be displayed with little to no knowledge of their significance to that culture. Although inscrutable, this practice of “missionary work” is an enduring practice which serves as cultural foreplay for the impending and inevitable early and/or arranged marriage of the youth upon their return home, as suitable mates and their parents typically will refuse a marriage contract without the prerequisite period of “missionary service” performed. It’s important to learn about and be sensitive to other cultures no matter how strange they are so I hope this short lesson helps to demystify the inaccessible nature of this insular community! I had a lot of fun going on this field trip to learn more about my Emotional Support Mormons, it had me as excited as my first day of school!
