Can you imagine Goleta Bay as a giant kelp forest like it once was? We can! With less than a year in the water our flagship reef is thriving with biodiversity. Crawling with lobster, octopus, shellfish, crabs and a water column full of fish, the proof is in the pudding! If you build it, they will come. We are so happy with how well our SeaCaves held up against the winter swell so far, the kelp holdfasts continue to grow! Kelp at the surface and crawling with lobster!

Hey there, fellow fish reefers! 🐠 I want to introduce you to a magnificent creature of the deep – the Giant Black Sea Bass. 🖤🐟
As a child, I knew it by different names - Jewfish, Black Sea Bass, and now, the Giant Sea Bass. But I like to call it the Giant Black Sea Bass! This one's a true heavyweight at around 75 kg, with the potential to grow up to a whopping 450 kg and live almost a century. 🐋
These incredible fish are not just sea bass, but they have a special affinity for sea caves. They see these caves as their true homes, not just another spot in the vast ocean. 🏞️
🚢 Currently, we're loading the third shipload for Tina Reef, located in Baja Mexico. The reef has grown to almost 400 m long by 100 m wide, featuring a staggering 500 sea caves. In about a year, it's expected to reach a length of 1,000 m with 25,000 sea caves, making it the world's largest and most successful biogenic reef. 🌍
Our team of expert commercial divers is doing an outstanding job in placing the sea caves just right. We like to keep it light and have a great time with the fish reef. 🤿
The Calico bass have been quick to colonize the sea caves as well, and a lush giant kelp forest has grown from them. In just 7 months, these caves have transformed into a thriving ecosystem. 🌱🌊
Our proprietary marine concrete blend is the secret behind the giant kelp's success, attracting the sensitive seeds of these majestic plants. 🌿
With kelp comes an abundance of marine life, including spiny lobsters by the hundreds and abalone, all finding a home on these smooth sea cave surfaces. 🦞🐚

Fish Reef project Mexico loads first of thousands of Sea Caves. Deployed in prime kelp growing regions of Central Baja, Mexico, “Tina Reef” named for Fish Reef Project’s founders late Mother, is the first large scale biogenic reef on the West Coast. Each Sea Cave® sustains up to 100 giant kelp plants and supports the nexus of thriving new and restored marine ecosystems.
This is what a true ocean health projects look like; benefiting nature and mankind alike. It took 12 years of intense work from the Fish Reef team to make this a reality and now it our time to scale and leave a legacy of lasting ocean health for hundreds of years to come.
