Chispa is a brave organizing political home for young Latinxs in Orange County. Chispa was created as a response to the results of the 2016 election results.
Despite the growth of the Latinx population, the country elected a President who built his campaign on attacks against communities of color, and who quickly moved to implement racist policies that seek to criminalize and police people of color. Locally, Orange County remains as conservative as ever, and Latinxs remain marginalized due to a lack of political clout. Even in Santa Ana, which maintains a Latinx City Council, Latinxs find themselves being pushed out by gentrification, a lack of affordable housing, and a growing preference by the city to divest from investments in youth programming in exchange for investments in failed tough on crime policies and cuts to police accountability. Chispa was born in order to build a political home for young Latinxs to grow the people power necessary to hold elected officials accountable and responsive to the needs of working class Latinxs in the county.

Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) are tracking the movements of anyone traveling through Santa Ana.
Boomer urges the Santa Ana City Council to immediately end the contracts with Flock and Motorola ALPRs after a report revealed data is being shared with federal and out-of-state agencies.

Records collected by Journalist Ben Camacho prove that Santa Ana ALPR data has been shared with out-of-state and federal agencies.
If the City cannot guarantee that information collected from Santa Ana residents will stay out of the hands of agencies that should not have access to it, these cameras should not be operating in our community.

Chispa is excited to announce our endorsement of Alva Alvarez for the Anaheim Elementary School District, Trustee Area 4 👏🏽🥳
Alva brings extensive experience in education and mental health to the school board. As a mental health specialist working in schools, she has provided clinical services to students and brings a trauma-informed perspective shaped by work with young people in schools, juvenile hall, and health care settings.
Alva has the experience to lead Anaheim Elementary schools in the right direction. We are proud to support her candidacy!
