Dear Sanger ISD Staff/Parents/Students, and Community,
It is with deep sorrow that we share the tragic news that three members of our Sanger ISD cross country family were involved in a serious vehicle accident last night. One student, a 2025 graduate of Sanger High School, sadly passed away at the scene of the accident. Two additional Sanger High School students were transported to the hospital for medical care.
This heartbreaking tragedy has impacted our entire school community, and our thoughts and prayers are with the students, their families, friends, classmates, and everyone affected.
In times like these, it is important that we come together to support one another with compassion and care. Counselors and support staff will be available to assist students and staff members who may need emotional support during the coming days. Counselors will be on call throughout the weekend and available Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for any Sanger ISD student or staff member needing support.
If you or your child needs assistance over the weekend, please contact the high school principal, Carly Sperry, by email at [email protected]. She will be monitoring communication throughout the weekend.
We ask our community to keep the families in your prayers and to respect their privacy as they navigate this unimaginable situation. We also encourage parents to check in with their children, as news like this can be difficult for students to process.
As additional information regarding services or support opportunities becomes available and is shared with the family’s permission, we will communicate that with our community.
Please continue to keep all three students and their loved ones in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.
Sincerely,
Dr. Tommy Hunter
Sanger ISD Superintendent

Partnering for School Safety: Thank You to Our K9 Sponsors!🐾
The Sanger ISD Police Department wants to give a shout-out to the two sponsors who make having Officer Trooper and our K9 program possible:
Jireh K9 Training Academy – They made it possible for us to HAVE Trooper, providing our department with a highly trained, elite canine partner.🐕🐾👮
Lone Oak Veterinary Clinic – They make it possible to KEEP him healthy, providing the top-notch medical care he needs to stay in peak shape.🩺
Because of their generous sponsorships, Trooper is ready to protect and serve our schools every single day. Thank you both for investing in our community's safety!💜

Sanger ISD Special Education Program Update: Cooperative Transition and Next Steps
Many inquiries have been received regarding how the dissolution of the Denton County Special Education Cooperative will impact Sanger ISD, particularly regarding the specialized programs offered at Linda Tutt High School (LTHS).
For over 50 years, the Denton County Special Education Cooperative has been a valued partner of Sanger ISD, supporting special education programming and services for students across several smaller area districts. This partnership has contributed to strong outcomes, and Sanger ISD is proud to be recognized for maintaining one of the state's most highly regarded special education programs.
Currently, the Cooperative serves Krum, Pilot Point, Ponder, and Sanger ISD. Cooperative models are typically used when district enrollment is smaller, allowing participating districts to pool resources to provide specialized programming efficiently. As districts grow, it is common practice to transition away from a cooperative model and establish a district-operated special education department.
Beginning July 1, 2026, Sanger ISD will transition to a fully district-operated special education program under the leadership of Melissa Dorum, Director of Special Education. As always, Sanger ISD remains committed to doing what is best for students and families while maintaining high-quality programming throughout this transition.
Several programs currently housed at LTHS are cooperative-based programs. Beginning in August 2026, students from partner districts previously served at LTHS will return to their home districts for services. At this point, Sanger ISD is large enough to operate these programs exclusively for Sanger students.
