Mazda MX-5 NC | Custom Turbo Tune

Another fun project through the shop.

This 2013 Mazda MX-5 NC came in with a custom rear-mount turbo setup built by dogwoodracing.com

Running just 5-6 psi of boost on 93 octane, the car produced 223 WHP and 187 WTQ after custom calibration by Flecha Performance.

The setup remains simple and reliable:

• Custom rear-mount turbo kit
• 550cc injectors
• 2.5 bar MAP sensor
• Upgraded clutch
• Factory catalytic converters
• Stock engine and supporting components

A great example of how a well-designed low-boost setup and proper calibration can completely transform the driving experience while maintaining OEM-like drivability.

Tuning our first FK8 Type R, and it just happens to be an OG Phoenix Yellow. 🔥

This FK8 came to us with a solid bolt-on setup:
▪️ Milltek catless downpipe
▪️ AWE cat-back exhaust
▪️ PRL Street intake
▪️ GReddy front-mount intercooler

After going through the calibration process, we custom tuned the car in-house using Hondata, optimizing the setup for smooth power delivery, drivability, and overall performance.

The FK8 platform continues to impress us with how well it responds to proper tuning and supporting modifications. We're excited to add this Phoenix Yellow Type R to the list of cars we've calibrated and look forward to working with more Honda enthusiasts in the future.

This one came in with just an S&B intake and high-flow cats, and the gains from tuning alone were solid.

Baseline (no tune) – 5th gear:
320whp / 298wtq
~338whp (Dynojet estimate)

After our custom HP Tuners calibration:
425whp / 400wtq
~455whp (Dynojet estimate)

That’s a significant jump from minimal mods, showing how much these platforms respond to proper calibration.

Last Friday was all about the new Z platform at our Hub Dyno.

We had two 2023+ Nissan Z’s in for tuning—one Heritage Edition and one Performance model—both running basic bolt-ons on 93 octane.

On the Heritage we kept torque under control to keep the stock clutch happy, and still achieved solid results at 443whp / 436tq.

The white Z came in a bit more aggressive on the torque side putting down 437whp / 458tq.

Strong, consistent numbers for lightly modified setups. These cars continue to show great potential even with just a few upgrades.
