Charlie Tadlock

When I teach Photo History and we talk about pictorialism, we go into the darkroom and do some contact prints with laser printed paper negatives. Surprisingly work great with absolutely no curve applied or regular old printer paper. We talk about print manipulation and process, intentionally leaving the negative out of full contact with the paper in order to give it the soft focus effect. This time I used an image I took on the 1.6 mpx Kodak Charmera for a little extra fuzziness.

If you didn’t know - I am now a middle and high school photo teacher at an incredible independent school in Utah. I’m also so lucky that my school has an amazing new gallery space that I have been tapped to manage - and values is not only as teachers but artists as well. I’m very lucky to be a part of the community - and am looking forward to showing new and old work starting next week! If you’re in Utah - come say hi!

SPE is always the best week of the year for me. I’m so fortunate to have such an incredible community in the photographers, educators, and artists that make up the organization. This year was extra special as my first conference as a non-student - a whole new experience entirely. As always, thank you to friends old and new for making the week so amazing.
