Every parent asks this at some point: “When will we see progress?”

Here’s the honest answer:
Progress isn’t linear.

Some weeks you’ll see big gains. Some weeks will feel stuck. And some weeks everything goes sideways because life happens...new routines, illness, school changes, growth spurts.

But when you zoom out?
The small wins add up.
The moments of connection matter.

And the progress you don’t notice yet is already being built underneath.

We’re in it with you. Slow, steady, and patient.

Here’s something you don’t hear enough:
ABA alone is not enough to meet a child’s full developmental needs.
Kids grow best when multiple supports work together. Speech, OT, AAC, school teams, parents, and ABA professionals all collaborating, not working in silos.
Your child is a whole human, not a checkbox.
They deserve a whole team.
And when everyone is aligned?
That’s when the magic happens.

Let’s clear this up: ABA isn’t babysitting.
Babysitting is keeping a kid alive until you get home.
ABA is helping them communicate, self-advocate, regulate, explore, problem-solve, and build real-life skills in ways that respect their neurotype.
It’s intentional, evidence-based, individualized, and rooted in connection, not compliance.

We’re not here to “watch your kid.”

We’re here to support who they’re becoming.

People hear “ABA” and think drills, data sheets, clipboards.
But that’s not us.

ABA Inc. is advocacy. It’s understanding. It’s slowing down long enough to see who a child actually is, not who someone thinks they should be.

It’s building connection, supporting communication, honoring autonomy, and celebrating the beautifully different ways kids show up in the world.

Therapy is just one piece.
The real work is helping kids feel seen, safe, and understood.

If you’ve ever had a pediatrician casually say, “They need 40 hours of ABA a week,” you’ve probably felt your soul leave your body for a second.

Here’s the truth: support should never be one-size-fits-all.
Some kids thrive with more structure. Some need way less. And ALL autistic kids deserve a childhood — play, downtime, silliness, dirt under their fingernails, the whole package.

At ABA Inc., we build plans around the actual child, not a number someone rattled off in a 15-minute appointment.

Because childhood isn’t optional. And neither is joy.

If your child’s “defiance” doesn’t respond to sticker charts, time-outs, or consequences, you’re not doing anything wrong.

You might be looking at a different function entirely.

What looks like Oppositional Defiant Disorder on the surface (refusal, arguing, avoidance) might actually be a PDA profile underneath. A nervous system reacting to demands with panic, not attitude.

These kids aren’t trying to control you.
They’re trying to protect themselves.

When you shift from control to connection, everything starts to change.

Safety before compliance.
Autonomy before demands.
Collaboration before correction.

Parents, you are equal members of the IEP team. Not guests. Not observers. You have rights, and your voice matters.

Here’s what every parent should know:
✅ You can request an IEP meeting anytime — not just once a year.
✅ You can say no to a goal or ask for data before agreeing.
✅ You’re allowed to bring an advocate, BCBA, or anyone who supports your child.
✅ You have the right to request data-based changes (not just “we feel like it’s fine”).

Advocating isn’t about being difficult. It’s about being informed and persistent.
The squeaky wheel doesn’t just get the grease, it gets the services. 🧠

You may have seen posts about the Department of Education and talk of moving special education oversight to Health & Human Services (HHS).

Let’s break it down clearly, calmly, and without the noise.

This proposal could shift who manages IDEA funding, compliance, and protections for students with disabilities.

Some believe this change could streamline services. Others worry it could weaken oversight, reduce consistency across states, and disrupt supports that families and professionals rely on.

As behavior analysts and disability advocates, this matters deeply to us.
The systems that fund and protect special education directly affect the children, families, and professionals we serve every day.

💭 We want to hear from you:
How could these changes impact your students, clients, or school community?
