Underground haulage systems are some of the hardest-working pieces of equipment in a coal mine. Their job is to move thousands of tons of material safely and efficiently through tight underground entries — often operating around the clock.
These systems include shuttle cars, conveyor belts, battery haulers, scoops, and rail systems, to transport coal from the production face to the surface. In many operations, conveyor belts stretch for miles underground.
Safety is a major part of haulage design. Mines use traffic controls, communication systems, ventilation planning, fire suppression equipment, and routine maintenance programs to help protect miners and equipment underground.
Efficient haulage doesn’t just improve production — it helps reduce downtime, improves workflow, and supports a safe working environment.

Safety is always our top priority underground.
Can you name the most important piece of safety equipment every miner carries with them while underground?
Drop your guess in the comments below!
The answer is the self-rescuer.
A self-rescuer is a life-saving device designed to provide breathable air in an emergency, giving miners valuable time to safely evacuate. While all safety equipment plays an important role, the self-rescuer is one of the most critical tools a miner carries every day.
At Wolverine Fuels, safety isn't just a priority, it's a commitment.

Before a single ton of coal reaches homes, power plants, or industries, a carefully coordinated loading process takes place at the mine site.
Coal trucks don’t just “pull up and load.” Each truck is weighed, inspected, and directed through a designated loading area to ensure safety, proper weight distribution, and efficiency.
Coal is loaded evenly into the trailer to prevent shifting during transport and to meet strict road weight regulations.
Many drivers complete multiple trips each day, working closely with mine personnel to keep operations moving safely and efficiently around the clock. From the mine to its destination, every load is part of a precise process designed to maintain energy reliability.

One of the most important pieces of equipment in underground mining is the roof bolter. Designed to install roof bolts that help secure and stabilize the mine roof, this machine plays a vital role in protecting our miners and maintaining safe working conditions underground.
Safety is always our top priority. Roof bolters are a key part of our ground control program, helping reduce hazards and create a safer environment for every employee working below the surface.
We're proud of the skilled operators, maintenance crews, and safety professionals who ensure this equipment performs reliably every day.
