Unfortunately, trauma processing doesn’t really follow a linear path. And when you’ve lived a good deal of your life in survival mode, and then suddenly things settle a bit…your body sometimes uses this lull as a way of offloading what you’ve stuffed down for years.

For me, this has come in the form of consistent, chronic pain. Which is something I’m taking steps to correct, because I recognize that health is my priority.

Sometimes that means saying no, and sometimes it means stepping away.

You hear people talk about protecting their peace a lot these days.

We are beginning to recognize the connection between burnout and declining health - yet we still struggle to recognize and respect boundaries of those we love.

For some, there was never a quiet time of their life where they were able to focus on their needs, there was no peace or stability.

So when a person has worked their ass off to create that foundation…they are 100% entitled to the peace they worked so hard to create. And if we can’t extend that compassion to the people we love, then we have more to learn.

Take care of yourself without the guilt. 🌱
