I like that every day brings something different: new challenges and new people

💭 Most memorable move:
My most memorable move was from Beverly Hills, CA. It required 3 trailers; it was a 65,000-lb pack-and-load. The customer was extremely happy, and we knocked it out of the park!

🛣️ What keeps you motivated on the road:
My motivation is my family and my friends whom I get to provide for.

💡 Advice for new drivers:
Patience, always be willing to learn, stay humble

📣 What he wishes people understood:
I wish people understood that it all takes good timing, the need to always be focused, and a tremendous amount of patience with what a van operator deals with on a daily basis.

💬 What do you love most about being a Van Operator:
I enjoy working with some of the great moving crews across the country.

💭 Most memorable move:
One of my most memorable moves was relocating the dean for a major California university from Texas to the Bay Area, I even had a site visit from John Chipman Jr. It was a great experience!

🛣️ What keeps you motivated on the road:
The money keeps me motivated; however, my wife and sons are my biggest motivation.

💡 Advice for new drivers:
Do what works for you; there is no perfect formula.

📣 What he wishes people understood:
I wish people knew and understood how much time, planning and coordination it takes to be a true professional HHG van operator.

💬 What do you love most about being a Professional Van Operator:
I love working for myself, making my own decisions, and the customer interactions—I enjoy people and have met a lot over the years. I love the feeling I get when I have a satisfied customer.

💭 Most memorable move:
My most memorable move was moving Ed McMahon, who was Johnny Carson's sidekick. After 50 years in the moving business, I've had plenty of memorable moves, and it's hard to pick just one.

🛣️ What keeps you motivated on the road:
It used to be the money; now, I most enjoy running the road with my son Matthew. He, his family, and mine are what keep me motivated on the road these days.

💡 Advice for new drivers:
You better pay your taxes! Take care of everyone's stuff as if it were your own. Find out what items are most important to your customer and be extra attentive to those pieces you are moving. Ultimately, you should treat their entire home as if everything in it is special to them.

📣 What he wishes people understood:
I wish they understood that driving the truck is only part of the job; there is much more to it than just sitting behind the wheel. Family means the most to me. I have been running with my son Matthew since 2013. Rather than go off to school, he and I decided he was going to jump in the truck with me. He has been my loader all these years, and I couldn't be happier with the relationship we have built together and the experiences he has had with me. It means a lot to have my son with me, and he keeps things flowing smoothly. I attribute my great scores and customer experience to the fact that he and I are a great team. I couldn't do this without him.

💬 What do you love most about being a Professional Van Operator:
I love the variety of people I get to meet from all walks of life and the fact that I get to help them throughout one of the biggest journeys of their life

💭 Most memorable move:
One of my most memorable moves was relocating a high-profile executive from Austin, TX, to Portland, OR. My crew and I took a lot of pride in representing the client throughout the move, and the relocation went flawlessly from start to finish. What made it especially memorable was the relationship and reputation that came from the experience. The customer was extremely pleased with our service, and that positive feedback has continued to open doors and build trust with others within the organization.

🛣️ What keeps you motivated on the road:
Honestly, it would be the ability to know I can provide a great service to my customers, which in turn allows me to provide a great life for my wife and son.

💡 Advice for new drivers:
Don't be overambitious; let the job flow as it needs to, and be sure to focus on customer service.

📣 What he wishes people understood:
I wish people truly understood all the moving parts the owner-operator has to deal with on any given day, whether working with a coordinator, a customer, my dispatch team, or equipment. There are a ton of different things that require my focus in order to perform a great move every time.

💬 What do you love most about being a van operator:
I love being able to drive to the location my family and I are going to vacation at, so I don't have to fly. I hate flying.​

💭 Most memorable move:
My most memorable move was relocating a Vice President of IBM. The customer had 150 birds, 4 dogs, and 5 cats. He bought a brand-new 15-person passenger van and removed all the seats to move the birds in it himself.​

​🛣️ What keeps you motivated on the road:
Going home keeps me motivated; from the minute I leave until the minute I get back, knowing I will eventually be home motivates me.​

💡 Advice for new drivers:
Find and work for an agent that treats you well and cares about you personally.​

📣 What he wishes people understood:
One thing that is often overlooked is just how much furniture—and the way it is manufactured—has changed over the years. Today, families move nearly everything they own, including pieces that may not have been designed to withstand the handling, vibration, and transportation involved in a long-distance move. That’s one reason professional movers emphasize proper preparation, packing, handling, and setting realistic expectations with customers. Protecting a customer’s belongings starts with understanding what can—and sometimes what should not—be moved.
