πŸ’™ Celebrating National Senior Citizens Day

Today, we celebrate the remarkable people who bring so much life, experience, wisdom, and personality to our community every day.

This photo from a recent New Resident Social captures something we love about life at Drake Terrace: there are always new friendships to make, stories to share, and experiences still waiting to be discovered.

Our residents have spent lifetimes building careers, raising families, pursuing passions, traveling, creating, learning, and contributing to their communities. National Senior Citizens Day is an opportunity to celebrate everything they have accomplished, while also recognizing all that continues to make each chapter meaningful.

To our residents, thank you for the laughter, stories, friendships, and spirit you bring to Drake Terrace. Today, we're especially proud to celebrate you! πŸ’™

⭐ Experience Matters

🀝 Meet the Team Tuesday

At Drake Terrace, experience isn't just measured in years, it's reflected in the relationships our team builds every day.

This week, we're excited to introduce Caitlin Harris, our Life Enrichment Director!

For Caitlin, life enrichment is about creating opportunities for residents to connect, express themselves, discover new interests, and simply have fun together. Since joining Drake Terrace, she says the warm welcome from residents and the support of her team have already made the community feel like home.

Creativity is a big part of who Caitlin is. She loves art and cooking, interests that pair naturally with her passion for creating engaging experiences for others. Outside of Drake Terrace, she also has quite the animal family waiting for her at home, including a beagle, two cats, and a bearded dragon!

As Caitlin looks ahead, she's excited to continue introducing new programs and exploring ways to create inviting, thoughtfully designed activity spaces for residents, including spaces inspired by Feng Shui principles.

Her goal is simple: foster creativity, encourage connection, and create an environment where residents have meaningful opportunities to stay engaged in the ways that matter to them.

We're so happy to have Caitlin as part of the Drake Terrace team and can't wait to see what she and our residents create together! πŸ’™

⭐ Experience Matters

🀝 Meet the Team Tuesday

At Drake Terrace, Experience Matters because it's the people behind our community who make all the difference.

This week, we're proud to introduce Marc Johns, our Culinary Director & Executive Chef.

With more than 40 years of culinary and hospitality experience, Marc brings far more than exceptional meals to Drake Terrace – he brings heart, leadership, and a genuine commitment to our residents.

What makes Marc special isn't just what's on the menu. He spends time getting to know our residents, listening to their favorite recipes, learning their preferences, and using those conversations to help shape our dining program. Because to Marc, residents aren't just served – they're heard.

As a hands-on leader, Marc works alongside his culinary team every day, mentoring, encouraging, and leading by example. His belief that great dining starts with a strong team creates an environment where both residents and associates feel valued.

When asked about his philosophy, Marc says it best:

"I'm All In – for the residents, for the team, for Kisco, and for doing the work the right way."

It's leaders like Marc who remind us why Experience Matters.

πŸ’™ If you see Chef Marc around the community, be sure to say hello!

🐾 A paws-itively memorable afternoon at Drake Terrace!

Last month, some very special four-legged members of the Drake Terrace family took center stage for our Resident Dog Show and courtyard parade! Residents brought out their beloved pups for an afternoon filled with wagging tails, proud pet parents, and plenty of smiles from the crowd.

Our pets bring so much companionship and joy into everyday life, and it was wonderful to celebrate the special bond our residents share with theirs. Of course, every pup was a winner in our book! πŸ’™πŸΆ

It's moments like these, filled with friendship, laughter, and a little bit of fun, that make our community feel like home.

🌿 Wellness Wednesday

Sometimes, it's the little things that make the biggest difference.

A familiar morning routine, a favorite seat at breakfast, a weekly fitness class, or gathering with friends for an afternoon activity – these everyday moments create a sense of comfort, purpose, and connection. Having meaningful routines can help reduce stress, support emotional well-being, and make each day feel more fulfilling.

This week's featured article from the Kisco Senior Living Learning Center explores how thoughtful daily routines support resident wellness while still leaving room for spontaneity, personal choice, and new experiences.

At Drake Terrace, we see every day how purposeful routines help residents feel confident, connected, and empowered to live well.

⭐ Experience Matters

🀝 Meet the Team Tuesday

At Drake Terrace, experience isn't just measured in years – it's reflected in the relationships our team builds every day.

Throughout this series, we're introducing the dedicated leaders whose passion, expertise, and commitment help make Drake Terrace the warm, welcoming community our residents know and love.

This week, we're proud to introduce Jose Acumabig, our Executive Director.

Jose has dedicated his career to serving older adults since 2008, beginning as a frontline team member before growing into leadership roles in Assisted Living, Memory Care, and ultimately Executive Director. His journey has given him a deep appreciation for every role within a senior living community and the importance of building strong, supportive teams.

For Jose, senior living is much more than a profession – it's deeply personal. Raised by his grandmother from the age of four until her passing when he was eighteen, he credits her love, guidance, and compassion for inspiring the way he leads today. That experience continues to shape his commitment to creating a community where residents, families, and associates feel respected, supported, and valued.

Since joining Drake Terrace, Jose has embraced what makes our community so special: caring associates, engaged residents, and a genuine sense of connection that makes Drake Terrace feel like home.

Outside of work, Jose enjoys spending time with his wife, Bambie, and their growing family. They recently welcomed their newest addition, baby Jianna, joining proud big sister Aurea, and are enjoying this exciting new chapter together.

Jose believes that great communities are built through trust, teamwork, and meaningful relationships – and that's exactly the culture he strives to foster every day.

It's leaders like Jose who demonstrate why Experience Matters. The stability our residents and families value comes from dedicated professionals who lead with compassion and invest in the people they serve.

πŸ’™ If you see Jose around the community, be sure to say hello!

🐾 A day of learning, inspiration, and wagging tails!

Our residents recently enjoyed a special visit to Guide Dogs for the Blind, where they had the opportunity to learn about the incredible work this organization does to foster independence, confidence, and mobility for people who are blind or visually impaired.

From hearing about the guide dog training process to gaining a deeper appreciation for the partnership between each guide dog and the person they serve, the experience was both educational and inspiring. It was a wonderful reminder of the life-changing impact that compassion, dedication, and service can have on others.

At Drake Terrace, we believe that lifelong learning doesn't stop with age. Exploring our local community, discovering meaningful organizations, and sharing new experiences together are all part of living well.

Thank you to the team at Guide Dogs for the Blind for welcoming us and sharing your remarkable mission!

From ensuring medications are taken as prescribed to reducing the risk of missed doses or medication errors, these services allow residents to focus on enjoying each day while giving families added confidence.

🌊 Adventure, fresh air, and great company, what could be better?

Our residents recently enjoyed a memorable day exploring the beauty and history of Angel Island State Park, taking in breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay while creating new memories together.

From the scenic tram tour to peaceful moments overlooking the water, the outing was filled with conversation, laughter, and opportunities to experience one of the Bay Area's most treasured landmarks. These shared adventures not only encourage residents to stay active and engaged, but also foster meaningful friendships and lifelong memories.

At Drake Terrace, we believe wellness extends beyond our community walls. Whether it's discovering a local destination, exploring nature, or simply enjoying time together, every outing is an opportunity to learn, connect, and experience the joy of living well.

Where should our residents explore next? 🌿
