🌿 Fresh air, beautiful scenery, and great company!

A few of our residents recently enjoyed a beautiful day outdoors exploring the Las Gallinas Valley Birding Loop. With binoculars in hand and plenty to see along the way, the group spent the morning spotting local birds, taking in the peaceful scenery, and enjoying conversation together.

Outings like this are a wonderful way to combine so many aspects of wellness; gentle movement, time in nature, lifelong learning, and meaningful social connection. And when you live in Marin County, there are always beautiful places nearby waiting to be explored! 💙

It was a refreshing day spent outside with friends, and everyone returned home smiling.

💙 A Friendly Face From Day One

Moving into a new community is a big transition, and at Drake Terrace, we believe no one should have to navigate it alone.

That's why we have our Resident Ambassador Program, connecting new residents with current residents who can help make those first days and weeks feel a little more familiar.

Meet Bitsy, one of our wonderful Resident Ambassadors! As someone who already knows the people, programs, and rhythms of life at Drake Terrace, an ambassador can offer something especially meaningful during a move: peer-to-peer support from someone who understands what it's like to be new.

Before move-in, our team thoughtfully pairs new residents with an ambassador based on shared interests, backgrounds, personalities, or experiences whenever possible. From there, their ambassador becomes a familiar face who can invite them to meals and activities, introduce them to neighbors, answer everyday questions, and help them discover the parts of community life that may interest them most.

Our Life Enrichment team remains involved throughout the transition, too, helping each new resident find activities, resources, and opportunities to make Drake Terrace feel like their own.

Because sometimes feeling at home begins with something as simple as walking into the dining room and already knowing someone who will be happy to see you. 💙

We're grateful for Bitsy and all of our Resident Ambassadors who help extend that warm Drake Terrace welcome.

🏙️ Connecting with Our Community

We were delighted to welcome San Rafael Mayor Kate Colin to Drake Terrace for an engaging conversation with our residents!

Mayor Colin shared updates about what's happening throughout San Rafael, spoke about local art and the city's vibrant creative community, and gave residents an inside look at some of the projects and initiatives shaping our hometown.

Our residents especially enjoyed the opportunity to hear directly from a local leader, ask questions, and stay connected to the community beyond our doors.

At Drake Terrace, we believe staying engaged with the world around us is an important part of living well. Thank you, Mayor Colin, for spending time with us and for such an informative and thoughtful visit! 💙

One of our most popular weekly programs at Drake Terrace takes residents on a journey through history, exploring the people, events, and moments that have shaped our world.

History Lessons with Barry has become such a resident favorite that we typically offer two sessions every Thursday! Residents come ready to listen, learn, ask questions, and share their own perspectives and memories along the way.

Programs like this are a wonderful example of lifelong learning in action. Staying curious, exchanging ideas, and discovering something new gives us even more ways to connect with one another.

At Drake Terrace, experience isn't just measured in years, it's reflected in the relationships our team builds every day.

This week, we're highlighting Barbra Ramirez, our HR Generalist!

Barbra brings eight years of Human Resources experience to Drake Terrace, along with a passion for supporting team members and fostering a positive workplace culture. She also recently completed her master's degree, an accomplishment that reflects her commitment to continued learning and professional growth.

While much of Barbra's work happens behind the scenes, her role has an important impact throughout our community. By supporting our associates and helping create an environment where team members feel heard, valued, and appreciated, Barbra helps strengthen the culture that allows our team to thrive.

And that matters to our residents, too. A strong, supportive workplace helps foster associate retention and continuity, meaning more familiar faces, trusted relationships, and team members who truly get to know the residents they serve. 💙

Outside of work, Barbra is a big music fan who loves attending concerts. She's seen Earth, Wind & Fire four times and recently enjoyed seeing Ambrosia in Napa! 🎶

At Drake Terrace, we know an exceptional resident experience starts with an exceptional team. Barbra's commitment to supporting the people who care for our residents is another example of why Experience Matters.

🐾 A special day with Guide Dogs for the Blind!

Last month, a group of Drake Terrace residents had the opportunity to attend a Guide Dogs for the Blind graduation and see firsthand the incredible bond between guide dogs and the people whose lives they help transform.

It was a meaningful outing filled with learning, connection, and plenty of admiration for the remarkable dogs, graduates, trainers, and volunteers who make this work possible. 💙

Experiences like these give our residents opportunities to stay connected with the greater Marin community, discover something new, and share memorable days together.

Thank you to Guide Dogs for the Blind for such a wonderful experience!

🦋 Something beautiful is growing at Drake Terrace!

Our Life Enrichment Director, Caitlin, recently introduced residents to the newest additions to our garden, caterpillars that will eventually transform into butterflies!

Residents had the chance to learn more about their life cycle and get an up-close look before we begin watching their transformation unfold. Soon, they'll make their way into our butterfly garden, adding even more life and beauty to our outdoor spaces. 🌿

It's a wonderful reminder that opportunities to learn, connect with nature, and experience a little wonder can happen at any age. We can't wait to watch our tiny new residents earn their wings! 🐛➡️🦋
