Meet Lizzie!
Over the summer, Lizzie had 2 serious episodes of anaphylactic shock while playing outside. An insect sting was suspected. Here at GGVets, Dr. Fleischman performed venomous insect skin testing and discovered that a honey bee was the culprit for Lizzie's anaphylaxis. With this information, Lizzie was able to begin honey bee de-sensitization (immunotherapy), a highly effective treatment that will protect her from future anaphylaxis. We're very happy that Lizzie's owners now have peace of mind when it comes to the possibility of future stings.
More information about venom immunotherapy at our website link below. If your dog has had an anaphylactic reaction from a suspected sting, please contact us to schedule a consultation with Dr. Fleischman for testing and treatment.

It's foxtail season! This dog's ear canal had several foxtails just about to puncture the eardrum. Luckily, the video otoscope with microforceps allowed for quick and safe removal.
Here are a few foxtail tips:
1)Make sure you are always checking your pets thoroughly for foxtails after any outdoor excursions. The ears, paws (webbing between toes, skin between pads), mouth, and nose are common sites.
2) Avoid overgrown trails and always keep your dog on leash.
3) Consider protective gear like booties or a foxtail mask.

Using video otoscopy, Dr. Fleischman could see a polyp in his patient’s ear (image 1). Under anesthesia, the polyp was successfully removed using an otoscopic snare (image 2). After, a foxtail could be seen puncturing the ear drum! The foxtail was then removed using otoscopic forceps. Talk about double trouble!

What a difference two weeks can make! When this patient came to Golden Gate Veterinary Dermatology with what was thought to be a chronic ringworm fungal infection, the skin looked like it was on fire (left image). After a careful examination from Dr. Fleischman, it was discovered that this was actually a severe contact dermatitis from anti-fungal treatments. After being instructed to stop these treatments, the improvement was quick and dramatic (right image)!
