Utah Modernism It leads us explore opportunities to connect design to the users and community and the building’s interior to its exterior.

We believe architecture is the most powerful design form in transforming people’s lives and our environment

Rooted in the unique culture, climate and geography of the Intermountain West, our design ethos drives a design process uniquely suited to the mountains, valleys and deserts of the Intermountain West. The product of our practice reflects an art to creating a sense of place – a genius loci –

Groundbreaking at the Heber Valley

The Wasatch Administration Building is designed as an extension of its landscape, framing views of the mountains while integrating locally sourced stone. The mass timber structure coupled with a ground source heat pump system brings warmth, efficiency, and sustainability to this 56,000 SF facility housing Council Chambers, administrative and other departments' offices, DLD and DMV services, and space for Heber Valley Tourism and Economic Development.

A civic building rooted in place, material, and experience.

This Veterans Day, EDA was honored to attend West Valley City's flag ceremony at the Veterans Memorial -- a space we were privileged to design, including a recent World War II expansion.

At the centerpiece of the memorial stands a steel Corona -- six towering columns that rise together to form a unified canopy overhead. Each column represents a different branch of the military, standing independently yet joining at the top to symbolize the strength found in unity and collaboration across all service branches.

From concept through construction, it's been an honor to create a lasting tribute to those who served. We're grateful to West Valley City, Okland Construction and all partners who helped bring this vision to life.

To all veterans: thank you for your service. 🇺🇸

We're thrilled to announce that the Stacy Witbeck Operations and Training Center has received LEED Gold certification!

Our team prioritized sustainability in every design decision for this project, from the transit-adjacent site location to exterior solar shading, on-site stormwater management and heat-reducing roofing materials. The striking L-shaped design maximizes daylight and views for all occupants while activating the pedestrian experience along North Temple corridor.

A huge congratulations to our incredible team who made this vision a reality and set a powerful precedent for sustainable, transit-oriented development in Utah!

At EDA, we believe architecture is the most powerful design form in transforming lives and communities. Today, as we celebrate , we recognize how resilient design emerges from a deep understanding of place.

Our design ethos of Utah Modernism blends rational, functional design with the unique geography, climate and history of the Intermountain West. Rooted in natural light, local materials and systems built for desert summers and alpine winters, it creates a sense of place, a genius loci, that flows from the human connection to nature and our built environment.

Enduring architecture harmonizes with community and environment. For us in the Intermountain West, that means responding to the mountains, valleys and deserts we call home.

EDA's comprehensive renovation of The Dumke Picnic Grove provides an updated woodland gathering space that seamlessly connects visitors with the Ogden Nature Center's 152-acre habitat. Two refurbished treehouses anchor the site, featuring reclaimed Douglas fir poles from Union Pacific's historic Lucin Cutoff trestle over the Great Salt Lake.

A new event pavilion with food prep space, restrooms and covered serving area defines the west edge of the extensively relandscaped zone. The Grove now includes a creek-view terrace, fire pit and varied seating areas for camps, parties and meetings.

Serving as an outdoor classroom, event venue and birdwatching location, the Grove exemplifies sustainable design that honors both natural heritage and community needs. 🌲🦅

EDA was honored to attend the recent unveiling of the West Valley City Veteran’s Memorial expansion, introducing new tributes to World War II veterans.

At the heart of the expansion stands a bronze statue of a Navajo Code Talker, honoring the vital contributions of Native Americans during WWII. Crafted from bronze, steel, concrete and natural stone, the memorial’s design draws meaning from both history and its natural setting. Local materials from nearby canyons deepen its connection to the region, with sandstone from Summit County and granite from Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Thank you to West Valley City staff and the members of the Navajo Nation for their inspiring words. It's been a privilege to contribute to such a lasting and meaningful tribute!

Originally from Salt Lake City and currently pursuing their graduate degree at SCI-Arc in Los Angeles, Milo brought a sharp eye, creative energy and technical skill to our team. Their work focused on Programming, Planning and Documentation—while gaining experience across the full spectrum of architectural practice.

We’ve loved having them back in Utah this summer, both in the studio and out exploring the landscapes that first sparked their interest in design.

Thanks for everything, Milo! 🏗️ We can’t wait to see what you do next.

Watch a campus-transforming vision come to life. 🏗️ The new L.S. Skaggs Applied Science Building at is the result of an extraordinary team effort -- delivered on time and within budget, even in the face of historic market volatility.

The facility now serves as the home for the Departments of Physics & Astronomy, Atmospheric Sciences and the Wilkes Center for Climate Science & Policy. It will bring together scientists working on some of the nation’s most pressing issues, including air quality, energy innovation and water management, uniting research and instruction in one future-focused environment.

Programming includes expanded physics labs (56% more capacity!), modern classrooms and a student research support center that serves 37 STEM degree programs and 9 pre-professional tracks, including engineering, pre-med and computer science.

From high-performance labs to flexible, experiential learning spaces, every detail was shaped by collaboration, adaptability and a shared commitment to educational excellence in Utah. 🙌
