Now on view: ๐๐ด ๐ ๐ฐ๐ถ ๐๐ณ๐ฆ, featuring drawings, paintings, and monotypes by Salt Lake City-based artist John Sproul.
In his drawings, John Sproul uses a rapid, repetitive process of mark-making as a ritual in an attempt access the more primal aspects of himself and others.

Head into the weekend thinking about ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ๐ง๐ต๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด. Scroll thru to view pieces from this colorful series of sculptures. Each is comprised of forms that develop as observes patterns that emerge during the process of deconstructing skateboards.
Pieces of the boards that come out straighter, or as a mix of curved and straight lines, become โLeftovers.โ They tend to have more defined edges and varied forms than the companion ๐๐ฐ๐ด๐ฆ๐บ ๐๐ข๐ช๐ญ๐บ series.
See them all in the ๐๐ฐ๐ด๐ฆ๐บ ๐๐ข๐ช๐ญ๐บ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ๐ง๐ต๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด exhibition on view at Current Work through Sept. 22. Email [email protected] to make an appointment to view the show or to inquire about available artworks.

Wondering about the title of our current show, ๐๐ฐ๐ด๐ฆ๐บ ๐๐ข๐ช๐ญ๐บ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ๐ง๐ต๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด? named the exhibition for his two ongoing series of sculpture pieces, which he creates from deconstructed skateboard decks. The โNosey Tailyโ pieces - like the ones pictured here - are more curved and suggestive of movement and constant, flowing adjustments that draw the viewer in, around, and through the sculptures.

Steffensen responds intuitively to the repurposed materials as he works. His process results in curvy โNosey Tailyโ pieces and โLeftoversโ pieces that are straighter with more defined edges. Watch for more images of these playful, innovative sculptures in the coming weeks.
