Program Description
Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves: high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent
holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. Assistant Coordinator: James Davis

Who is eligible to apply? Students who are enrolled in grades 9-11 and reside within one of three target high schools in Rowan Salisbury School District. Salisbury High School, North Rowan High School, and Henderson Independent High School. Prospective students must either meet federal low-income guidelines or be potential first generation college students (Neither parent having a bachelor’s degree), or both. During the Academic Year, students are required to participate in after school tutoring sessions which are held twice a week at target schools. During these sessions Upward Bound will provide academic, career and pre-college counseling to students. During the Summer Academy LC Upward Bound Applies the Holistic Approach to educating our students, Upward Bound provides students with prep course to help bridge the gap for their upcoming courses. Morning and afternoon workouts are provided to promote physical fitness among our students. Career speakers and educational field trips, and College tours are also provided.
