How am I surviving postpartum?

I have never been very good at caring for myself which I will openly admit is a HUGE area of opportunity for me. Especially because it's the first thing I tell my postpartum clients to do.

You know... can't pour from an empty cup😏

But this time... the 3rd time... I wanted my postpartum to look a bit different. I wanted it to be more intentional even in the midst of caring for my 2 older children. I wanted to make sure that I'm not left behind. To feel like I actually GOT THIS. To feel nourished. To feel rested. To feel balanced. Sooooo... here's what that looks like.

I prepare myself a snack tray with yummy fruits, nuts, veggies, eggs, tea... and fuel myself through the day.

I fill up my water pitcher 3x per day and add a liquid iv packet to one of them to keep my electrolytes balanced and ensure I'm getting the hydration I need to make milk.

I sleep when my body tells me to.

I snuggle my 7yo at every opportunity... even while nursing.

I hold my baby as much as I want to and put her down when I need to.

My house is a mess and I'm not stressing about it. But I do throw on a load of laundry and/or dishes every day because it makes me feel good.

And today I'm feeling good. I'm feeling balanced. I'm feeling rested and nourished.

The Doula had a baby.

It's been one week. One hard week. Birth... postpartum... babies... kids... self... it's hard.

Welcome to this journey🖤

I wanna talk birth stories!

Did your moms talk about their birth journey with you?

Do you think open dialogue about birth did/would have shaped your dreams of mind going into your birth experience?

Doulas are Essential 06/05/2020

Restricting doulas is a CRIME against birthing people!
Restricting doulas is a HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION!
EVERY birthing person deserves to have the support of a doula AND their partner... not one or the other!

How to in

Did you know that birthing people are more willing to birth "accidentally" on the side of the road so that they can have the support they NEED and DESERVE when they welcome their babies? Did you know that some birthing people are birthing without a medical professional because midwives are all booked up and hospitals are making them choose between their partner and their trained, essential birth support?

But we are still here. We still hold that space. We still advocate. We still educate. We still comfort. Behind masks and computer screens.

***edited to note that I did not deliver a baby and do not encourage birthing without a doctor or midwife***
