About: The Tonaquint Nature Park is one of the better places to find birds within our populated areas. Large, mature trees surrounding a pond attract both woodland birds and waterfowl, migrants and residents. Most anything can show up here. The paths are mostly dirt but level and maintained.

Calling all experienced birders! 🐦

The North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) is looking for volunteers to help monitor bird populations across Utah this spring and early summer in partnership with Tracy Aviary and Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.

The BBS is the longest-running continent-wide survey of breeding birds, and the data collected plays a critical role in tracking bird population trends across North America.

Volunteer observers sign up for one or more 25-mile driving routes and complete the survey once per year by stopping every half mile to identify birds by sight and sound during 3-minute counts.

We are especially looking to fill several Southern Utah routes, including:

• Gandy (85309)
• Wah Wah (85114)
• Indian Peak (85164)
• Stock Reservoir (85014)
• Cane Spring Desert (85122)
• Bullfrog Bay (85322)
• Lake Powell (85172)

Participants should:
✅ Be confident identifying local birds by sight and sound
✅ Have reliable transportation suitable for remote areas
✅ Enjoy early mornings and great birding opportunities!

Interested in volunteering or learning more? Please contact Marguerite Tate at:
📧 [email protected]

You can also learn more about the Breeding Bird Survey here:

Please share with any birding friends, groups, or colleagues who may be interested!
