One of Southern Utah's most colorful summer traditions returns June 26–28 as the Panguitch Valley Balloon Rally fills the skies above Garfield County with dozens of hot air balloons, drawing visitors from across the region for a weekend of family-friendly activities and unforgettable views.
Each morning, weather permitting, colorful balloons launch into the open skies above Panguitch, creating a spectacular backdrop against the surrounding mountains and valleys. Hundreds of spectators gather each year to watch the early morning ascensions and experience the unique atmosphere that has made the rally a favorite Southern Utah event.
The weekend also includes one of the rally's most popular traditions, the Balloon Glow on historic Main Street. As evening falls, illuminated balloons create a vibrant display that transforms downtown Panguitch into a celebration of light, color, and community.

Some cafés are built around coffee. Others are built around food. West Village Neighborhood Café seems to have built itself around people.
On a recent visit, a few friends and I settled onto the patio to enjoy live music, conversation, and a leisurely Southern Utah afternoon. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, with neighbors stopping to chat and familiar faces appearing throughout the day. It felt less like a coffee shop and more like a gathering place.
I ordered a cardamom latte and a Bird Seed Bar, a simple pairing that fit the mood perfectly. The latte offered warm spice without overwhelming the coffee, while the Bird Seed Bar made for an easy afternoon treat. The menu is intentionally approachable, and from what I hear, new offerings are already in the works.
One of the surprises was how much there is to discover beyond the menu.

What happens after the worst day of your life?
That question sits at the heart of He Died, I Didn't, a new contemporary fiction novel by Southern Utah author Theresa Nelson. While the title immediately signals a story rooted in grief, the book reaches far beyond loss, exploring love, humor, memory, second chances, and the complicated process of learning how to move forward when life doesn't follow the script.
Nelson describes the novel as fiction grounded in emotional truth. In the book's preface, she explains that the story grew from a simple but powerful realization: perhaps happiness isn't something permanent, but something found in moments that matter.
The novel follows Charli, a woman navigating life after the death of her husband. As memories of the past collide with the possibility of new relationships, she is forced to confront difficult questions about grief, loyalty, timing, and whether opening herself to love again is worth the risk.
