We proudly celebrated the official dedication of the Summit Tunnel as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark yesterday.

This landmark represents a defining moment in civil engineering history. The successful use of nitroglycerin explosives at the Summit Tunnel by engineers and Chinese laborers marked a major turning point in tunnel construction, reducing excavation time and setting the stage for future engineering advancements.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us—including members, local leaders, and history lovers—for making this a truly memorable moment.

The board visited the California State Railroad Museum weekend to recognize the National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark plaque for the Summit Tunnels currently residing at the museum. Thank you !
