A standing ovation for the team at Aroma Joe's in S**o for their generosity and support of the Arts program at Thornton Academy!
Aroma Joe's raised nearly $1,200 through a two-day fundraiser that coincided with our spring musical -- and that's something to sing about!
The partnership with Aroma Joe's, now in its third year, provides valuable resources that help our students present high-caliber productions for their audiences. During the collaboration, which supported our spring musical, a portion of sales at Aroma Joe's benefited the production.
"The success of our musical and other visual and performing arts performances relies on the generosity of wonderful community partners like Aroma Joe's," says Emma Campbell, chair of our Arts department. "Their donations have truly enriched the experiences of our students, and we are incredibly grateful for this partnership."

History teacher Jill Herrick is Thornton Academy’s Teacher of the Year!
Taken from the announcement made at the end-of-the-year staff meeting on Monday:
“She is revered by the student body and faculty and the legacy she is building here at Thornton Academy. Students regularly seek out her counsel and know they see her room as a safe space. She goes out of her way to make others feel welcome and it would be hard to find a kinder person. Beyond the classroom, she is the ultimate team player and colleague - calm, even keeled, positive, and always willing to do anything she can to help the school.
As a teacher of history, she takes clear joy in helping students as she connects the events of the past to their current day and future plans. In all of her roles here at TA, in the classroom, as a colleague, as a club advisor, as a TAMS and Upper School parent, Jill Herrick embodies what it means to be an effective, caring and invested teacher.”
Congratulations, Mrs. Herrick!
A statement from Thornton Academy and the S**o School Board.
Dear S**o Families and Community Members,
We are pleased to share that Thornton Academy and the S**o School Department have reached a mutually agreed-upon contract, ensuring that Thornton Academy will continue serving as S**o’s high school for years to come. Tonight, at a public meeting of the S**o School Board, the Board voted unanimously to approve this agreement, which had previously been approved by the Thornton Academy Board of Trustees.
At its core, this agreement reflects a shared belief that students must remain at the center of every decision. While there were challenges along the way, the outcome of these contract negotiations provides a foundation for continued partnership in support of S**o families today and into the future. Negotiations are rarely easy, but we were able to accomplish a great deal for S**o students – securing stability in our continued partnership between Thornton Academy and the S**o School Department, and ensuring free lunch for all S**o students, PK-12.
As we move forward together, we do so with gratitude and renewed purpose. This agreement provides the stability needed for both the School Department and the Academy to focus our attention where it belongs - on our students and the excellent education that S**o families have come to expect from S**o’s public schools and Thornton Academy.
We thank you for your patience, your trust, and your unwavering support throughout this process. We are proud of the longstanding partnership between the S**o School Department and Thornton Academy, and we look forward to continuing our shared mission of providing exceptional educational opportunities for all students.
