With a sad and grieving heart, I convey a dear friend, Dr. Torrence "Torry" Thomas, Head Cathedral Verger at the Washington National Cathedral passed away on Monday, November 17th. HIs funeral will be in the Nave of the National Cathedral on Tuesday, December 2nd at 11am.

Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant, Torry. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Receive him into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.

The conference will have seminars and activities in Oklahoma City. The conference provides the opportunity for fellowship with fellow vergers from around the country. The conference ends with an 11:15 am Holy Eucharist service at St. Paul's Cathedral with a formal procession of the vergers into the nave. There will also be a group photo taken of the participants.

🎉 Special Announcement: Commissioning of a Verger at Sts. MM&M 🎉
We are delighted to announce that during our 10:30 AM service on Sunday, June 22, we will be commissioning Roger Vance as a verger at The Episcopal Church of Sts. Mary Magdalene & St. Martin in Coral Springs, Florida! (stmmcs.net)
The office of verger has deep historical roots in the Church, dating back to the Middle Ages in England. Originally responsible for the order and security of the church building and grounds, vergers traditionally led processions and helped maintain the dignity and flow of worship. In the Episcopal Church today, vergers continue this ministry of hospitality, reverence, and liturgical coordination—serving as quiet stewards behind the scenes and alongside the clergy to ensure our worship is both beautiful and seamless.
Please join us on June 22 as we prayerfully bless and commission Roger Vance, recognizing his call to serve God and our community in this sacred role. This will be a joyful and meaningful moment in the life of our parish!
