Lemon meringue pie has a rich history that dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries. The dessert combines a tart lemon custard filling with a light, fluffy meringue topping made from whipped egg whites and sugar. Lemon-based pies were popular in Europe, while meringue was refined by Swiss and French pastry chefs. The modern lemon meringue pie is often credited to 19th-century European culinary traditions and later became a favorite dessert in the United States. Today, it remains well known for its balance of sweet and tangy flavors.
