The week of October 15-22 2023 is national Veterinary Technician week.
Vet techs perform vital tasks in the clinic and ensure your pets are healthy and well taken care of. Technicians administer vaccines and medicine to your pets, and perform procedures such as laser therapy, blood draws, anesthesia monitoring and urinalysis, among others - with many being difficult and exhausting. In addition, in many Veterinary establishments, technicians also help clean the clinic, walk dogs and manage boarding animals. This week, recognize all the hard work the amazing technicians at your Veterinary Clinic do! Happy Vet Tech Week to all of you!

We're in the summer months now, and with temperatures soaring higher and higher, make sure to keep your pets safe from the heat. Pets, especially Dogs, have a serious risk of heat stroke, which can be extremely dangerous and LETHAL. Here's some tips to avoid giving your pets a heat stroke!
1: Dog walking temperature - while it may seem comfortable for us, even 70 degree weather can give dogs a heat stroke! When walking dogs during the summer, avoid running and strenuous activity and keep in the shade! Avoid heat-reflecting surfaces like sand, concrete and asphalt, especially if there is no shade.
2: At home, keep a cool and well-ventilated space for your pets to relax in and make sure cool, fresh water is available at all time!
3: NEVER leave your pet in a car, even for short times. Temperatures rise much quicker in a car and can be LETHAL to pets. If you absolutely have to leave your pet in a car, make sure to run your car's AC and direct it at your pet. Even this runs a large risk though, so we urge you to avoid leaving animals in cars.
4: Be aware of the Symptoms - There are many symptoms to watch out for, but the main ones are: Panting, Drooling, Dizziness/staggering, Agitation, Collapsing or lying down, Breathing Distress and a Quickened Heart Rate. If you see these symptoms in your pets, get them to a safe environment and give them cool, fresh water quickly.
Heat stroke is an extremely dangerous condition, but with proper preventative steps it can be avoided. So please, when you walk your dog, or even when you are at home, make sure your pets are comfortable and not at risk of heat stroke.
