So many ask me for an example of a great organization of a space where things are out for easy access and view- here you go!

Follow me to see more DIY’s! This process has taken about two years of occasional work but the past month I put my head down and got it done. Just a reminder to take the time to put things home. What is home? That very intentional and logical spot for YOU. Whether that is put inside a cabinet, drawer or closet, or arranged out on an open shelf, counter or display is based on your organization style. Just because Mom always needed everything behind closed doors/ drawers doesn't mean that will work for you.

ORGANIZING with Kids

Does anger or regret ever keep you from letting things go that you feel you wasted time, effort or money on?

Whenever I or a client starts to be angry or sorrowful about 'wasting' time, money, etc on items - I ask them to take a step backward and consider the bigger picture. Sometimes we don't know what the future holds or what plans God has for our lives or frankly - those things. When she decided to sell, and inventory started to build up- she stopped, and I am sure there was a lot of regrets but today she is in a different position. Those items are no longer contributing to her livelihood, and can be treated as items to bless others. Take a moment to imagine the surprise and relief these clothes will bring to someone at a battered womens shelter? Not hand-me-downs but new clothes that make them feel more settled and themselves as they navigate trying to build a new life. Maybe the plan always was that you would have that abundance just when someone else needed a hand up. How great our God is that things that brought anger, defeat, and confusion now become so clearly a blessing. Recognize that overabundance ALWAYS is a blessing in disguise if you just look beyond your history with the items, and see the future/joy it can bring to someone else.

Ever wake up an hour before your alarm, and decide to race the alarm to get your room or closet organized/straightened? It makes me laugh how little games like that can get me focused and productive.

And I share this to remind you that everyone responds to different stimulus. Some folks work well with a set cleaning schedule, others have a daily reset that keeps things tidy, and others get motivated if everyone in the family or roommates clean together (it is called mirroring). And others, especially folks on spectrum need a bit of a game, a challenge or competition to get them moving.

So don't beat yourself up- experiment and find out what works, and if you still feel overwhelmed- call me amd we will work together on a solution.

You are never too far gone to make a change. I want for you the feeling I have right now- the "Ahhh, Clean room- Everything in its place!"
