A truck pulls into the shop.

In the back is a part that probably doesn't look like much to most people.

It's worn.

Maybe broken.

Maybe there isn't a replacement sitting on a shelf somewhere.

But somewhere else, there's a machine waiting on that part.

And behind that machine are people waiting to get back to work.

That's something easy to forget about machine-shop work.

We're rarely just fixing a piece of metal.

We're helping get a production line moving again.

Helping a maintenance crew solve a problem.

Helping a company avoid another day of downtime.

Sometimes that means machining a tiny precision part you could almost lose in your pocket.

Sometimes it means putting the cranes on a roll weighing tens of thousands of pounds.

And sometimes it means standing around a worn-out piece of equipment scratching our heads and asking:

“Alright…how are we going to fix this?”

Those are often our favorite jobs.

Because after all the measuring, machining, welding, fitting, balancing, and problem-solving, another truck eventually backs through the door.

Only this time, the part is leaving.

And somewhere down the road, a machine starts running again.

That's what we do at Georgia Machine Works.

We make things.

We repair things.

And every once in a while, we figure out how to save something somebody else thought was finished.
