Last week was a bittersweet night as we celebrated Kylie Robinson, the one and only senior on our Lady Devil Softball team. 💙🥎

Congratulations, Kylie, as you close out your high school softball career! We are so proud of you and all you’ve given to Lady Devil Softball. 🎓💙

Noah Avery was recognized this afternoon at the Noon Optimist Club of Rome's luncheon as Model Optimist Student of the Month. Noah's optimism and encouraging attitude make him a trusted leader and "go-to" for many activities at MHS. He deeply values his connections with others and finds genuine joy in opportunities to serve.

Our students had a blast getting hands-on in the kitchen, whipping up some delicious monkey bread! From rolling dough to sprinkling cinnamon sugar, everyone pitched in and made sweet memories together. There’s nothing better than learning (and snacking) side by side! 🍞🍬 Great job, Blue Devils!

Last week, Ms. Workman's US History classes celebrated some recent learning by having a "Boston Tea Party," where they could try different hot teas similar to what the colonists drank. The room was filled with the rich aromas of various teas, and students eagerly discussed the historical significance of the event.

AP Art History students from Model spent the day at the Carlos Museum, immersing themselves in the rich tapestry of Ancient Mediterranean art. Surrounded by intriguing artifacts and stunning masterpieces, they explored the historical context and artistic techniques that have shaped this fascinating period in art history.

Jesse Ayer is a Senior Captain for the Blue Devils in 2026. He is a quiet leader, but has never flinched at getting his fellow lineman corrected or energized. Jesse is now a 4 yr starter at center for Model. Like many of the oline, his stat line each week has zero carries or catches and no yards or touchdowns. He just goes about his business and paves the way for his teammates! Jesse has worked extremely hard in our weight program and it is paying off his senior year. Jesse is one of our unsung heroes who just does his job to the best of his ability. Then he does it again, and again, again!

Model High Seniors Named as Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Model High School principal Kevin Strickland announced today that Seniors Elijay Ely and Evan Scharnhorst have been named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2027 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2027 competition by taking the 2025 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)
“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” comment and spokes person from NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their school plays in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”

Students, Parents and fans, we need you to show up early to support a new home game tradition: The Devil Walk. The Blue Devils will begin their walk to the field at 7:20 and pass by the home bleachers and student section. You don’t want to miss it - bring your energy and be loud!

We had some very special visitors on our campus this morning! State Superintendent Richard Woods and State Representative Katie Dempsey stopped by MHS today to present Mrs Syverson and her students the John Hancock Award for the second year in a row!

Presented by the Georgia Department of Education, this recognition honors public schools that demonstrate outstanding excellence in cursive writing instruction. Learning cursive isn’t just a classic skill—it supports literacy, builds fine motor skills, and connects our students directly to historical primary sources.

Mrs. Sarah Syverson does an outstanding job leading this initiative and pushing her students to be the best they can be. We are so proud of our students and teachers for setting the standard for handwriting excellence! 🌟👏💙
