Sheet piles are panels with interlocking connections that are driven into the ground via either an impact or a vibratory pile hammer. While this type of pile is rarely used in permanent construction, it is excellent when it comes to providing structural resistance in deep excavations.

In pile driving construction, the term “springing” means that the pile is vibrating too much laterally from the blow of the hammer. Several things can cause this, including a crooked pile, a pile where the butt has not been squared off properly, or a misalignment between pile and hammer.
