Last Friday was a special day for the City of Searcy and we were honored to join this community at a topping-off ceremony for the Searcy Community Center. On a hot June afternoon, a group of community members, consultants and contractors stood in the space will soon be an amphitheater connected to the community center, which is one of many unique designs from Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects. Led by CDI Contractors and Hart Construction, the community center has progressed to the point of having the highest beam set, which signals a major milestone in construction. The steel beam was signed by those in attendance and was hoisted up to its spot at the top of the structure.
This building and its surrounding landscape will be a gem for the entire region once completed. The facility will include a bikeable entrance that will easily connect to the Little Red Greenway, which is currently in design, a teen room complete with video games, capacity for events of various sizes, a makers’ space, courtyard, indoor playground, fully equipped basketball courts, and more. Prism Design Studio provided landscape architecture that will compliment this state-of-the-art building, and Crafton Tull engineers proudly provided civil engineering for the facility.
Having worked with the City of Searcy for several years, we have had the privilege of being a part of a wonderful design and construction team assembled to bring these community-driven projects to life. The ambitious vision set forth in the Plan is coming into focus and we are so proud to share in moments like this with this community.

Crafton Tull joined the Hot Springs Fire Department and the City of Hot Springs for the ribbon cutting of the new No. 6 fire station! This facility was strategically designed to reduce emergency response times in one of the city’s fastest growing areas, an essential improvement when every minute can make the difference in protecting lives and property. Our team provided architectural design, civil engineering, and surveying for this critical project. Congratulations to the City of Hot Springs and the community! The City of Searcy invited the community to have some fun and make a splash at Berryhill Park as they cut the ribbon and officially opened the newly completed splashpad and inclusive playground just in time for summer break. 💦🌳
These inclusive play spaces are one of the many community-driven projects identified through the planning initiative. Crafton Tull is proud to have partnered with the City for not only the master planning process, but also the design of the playground and splashpad. Inspired by nature and designed for kids of all abilities, the playground features tree-house-themed play elements nestled into the grove of pine trees. The splashpad’s color scheme mimics the nearby Little Red River with water flowing from the splashpad across the walk, then continuing through the playground.
The community played a major role in shaping the vision for Berryhill Park by providing feedback throughout the planning process, and we are so excited to see their vision become reality as each project is completed.

In 2008, new life was given to the historic Junction Bridge that connects downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock. The bridge was transformed from a railroad bridge to a pedestrian crossing that has solidified the landmark as a downtown destination. During the renovation, the City of Little Rock, AR - Government identified the need for a safe and accessible connection to La Petite Roche, the historic rock outcropping that gave Little Rock its name, located along the Arkansas River just east of the Junction Bridge south abutment. This pedestrian pathway called for the existing grade to be lowered nearly 17 feet, but uninterrupted public access to the Junction Bridge, its elevators, and stair towers had to be maintained with a pedestrian bridge above the walkway.
Crafton Tull provided bridge design for pedestrian access to the Junction Bridge above the walkway leading to La Petite Roche. This atypical project included a 70-foot steel pony truss and an 18-foot retaining wall integrated into the riverfront landscape. The Junction Bridge conversion and the access bridge strengthened the connection between downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock, further establishing the bridge as a regional destination for pedestrians, cyclists, and tourists. With programmable LED lights, the Junction Bridge has now become a defining feature of the Little Rock skyline and serves as a part of the backdrop for events and gatherings on both sides of the Arkansas River.
