Happy 250th Birthday to the United States Marine Corps!!
Dobermans get to celebrate this day to day with their fellow brothers and sisters because of their invaluable service to the USMC during wartime. The 1st Marine War Dog Platoon saved countless American lives while in the line of duty. Canines still serve today in and out of active warzones but the Doberman Pincher has been retired from duty.
The 1st Marine War Dog platoon was primarily Dobermans due to their ability to adapt to the jungle environment and the donation from the DPCA. The Marine Corps training programs were a little different than the other branches, as the dogs in this platoon were only used to eliminate the enemy or save their fellow marines. This split them between scout dogs or messenger dogs.
DOBERMANS ON RECORD
Andy: This Dobie led M Company through a road block by alerting the troops of a scattered sniper position, saving more than we can count.
Otto: Alerted his platoon of a machine gun nest that was over 100 yards away giving them time to take cover before the firing began. There were zero casualties.
Rex: Alerted his group of enemies in the vicinity. At daybreak when the ambush occurred, the Americans were ready and were not surprised.
Jack: Alerted M Company of a Japanese sniper in a tree. When it was light enough, Jack's handler pointed out the tree and the sniper was eliminated before he could kill any American troops.
These are just a few of the things that Dobermans have done and today we can remember their service to our United States Marine Corps.
