Keiichiro Nakamura, a PhD student at Kitasato University, is the Drug Metabolism and Disposition Highlighted Trainee Author for June 2026. His research focuses on developing human-relevant experimental models to better understand how drugs are absorbed in the intestine. The research provides a new way to recreate human intestinal function in the laboratory, allowing scientists to study medicines under conditions that more closely resemble the human body.
“I hope that my research will help make human-relevant intestinal models more accessible to the broader pharmacology community,” he shared.

Ben Clements, PhD, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Michigan, is the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics Highlighted Trainee Author for June 2026. His research focuses on the characterization of novel pain therapeutics, ranging from NMDA receptor antagonists to opioid receptor allosteric modulators.
“My work aims to create new ways to provide pain relief to patients, with the goal of making new medications for transition from the bench to patients,” he shared.
