Remembering, as I am, that the tax situation this year is likely to be INSANE? Well, ASMP has advice coming. If you think of it in these busy times, please take a moment to thank Tom Kennedy of ASMP and other leaders in the photography and content creator world: the CASE Act is part of the spending bill currently being argued about in DC, and, barring a complete overhaul of the bill, will become law! This will create a process similar to the patent infringement "small claims court", where content creators whose works have been used without agreed-upon compensation can bring action to be paid for their work. Website owners were among the opposition to the bill, and their allies in Congress had stopped our progress in the past, but it was placed in the "must-pass" financial legislation that passed both houses of Congress. Since a full tear-down of the law right before Christmas is unlikely, prospects look good for us.
ASMP took the lead in this fight, and your leadership at both the national and local levels worked hard and visited Representatives and Senators many times during the long road of which we're near the end. We learned a lot from this fight, and we'll be better able to represent you, the members of ASMP, when the next fight becomes necessary.
