You might have caught a preview of this tree in one of our latest posts at the bottom, but I wanted to take a moment to look back at one of the absolute proudest chapters of our portfolio. This massive American Elm is an absolute titan of a tree—an extremely old survivor that commands your attention the second you look at it.

To give you the honest context, this photo is an old throwback. When it was taken, this tree hadn't been pruned in three full years, and I was performing a critical structural evaluation.

Unfortunately, over the years of doing work on this tree, many of our other photos have been lost. We apologize and wish we could show you more of the step-by-step process, but right now we have this single, beautiful photo to look at a titan in time. When you look up into those massive, winding limbs, I want you to feel exactly what it's like to stand right there in the canopy with us—feeling the sheer scale, the history, and the immense responsibility it takes to preserve a living landmark.

The client was understandably terrified because a massive co-dominant leader on the opposite side had suffered a union failure and snapped dangerously close to the house. When a major crotch or union tears like that, most homeowners panic. In fact, this client was originally convinced they had to completely cut the tree down and remove it from the property just to protect their home.

We stepped in and convinced them not to do it. We suggested to care for it instead.

Cutting down a massive, mature titan like this would have cost thousands of dollars up front. More importantly, losing that ancient canopy long-term would have completely ruined the yard's value and left the house totally exposed.
Instead of taking the easy, destructive route, we went to work with surgical precision:

* Strategic Structural Pruning: We re-engineered the canopy's weight distribution, executing precise, technical cuts to reduce wind resistance and keep any further future damage from happening down the road.
I worked in this tree for years, keeping it healthy, safe, and upright. Now that we are laying down new roots here on the Space Coast, I can honestly say I'm going to miss climbing this old giant.

The 80-Foot Cat Rescue Throwback

Throwback to a wild day in the field: When an 80-foot rescue mission takes a dedicated team effort! 🐱🌲

We love looking back at the unique challenges we’ve faced out in the field over the years. This particular day is an oldie but a goodie that perfectly shows what our business is truly all about—relationships, heart, and absolute refusal to give up on our neighbors (even the four-legged ones!).

Keirsten’s sweet kitty had been stuck dangerously high up in a massive canopy for three long days. The fire department had already been out twice, other services tried, and neighbors were at a total loss. The poor cat just kept climbing higher out of reach.

When we got the call, we geared up and went straight to work.

A quick note on the technical side: Under normal pruning conditions, we strictly practice spikeless climbing to protect the health of the tree. For this rescue, we initially ascended completely spikeless using mechanical ascenders to clear the main trunk safely. However, once we reached the top, the layout changed drastically. To navigate the extremely tight, narrow canopy as well as a major section of the tree was compromised due to a huge cavity from the tree previously being topped years ago made the tree risky ,and to maintain absolute stability while handling a panicked, moving animal 80 feet in the air, we made the professional decision to utilize spikes for that final stretch. It was all about precision footing, safety, and making sure everyone came down in one piece.

It took a grueling two and a half hours of precision climbing, extreme patience, and a tight team effort out in the field to handle the situation safely. That stubborn kitty actually jumped out of our rescue bag three separate times way up in the air! But we kept pushing, stayed patient, and refused to rest until she was back on the ground safely in her family's arms.

Tree work takes serious technical skill, but for us, it will always be about serving our community with real passion and integrity. Big or small, high or low—we treat every single property and situation like it's our own family.

Unfortunately, with our recent big move, we are unable to participate on the ground for this upcoming event on Wednesday, September 16th.
