As a dance/movement therapist, I often prescribe what I practice: movement as medicine. And this May, my personal prescription is 90s dance breaks! 💫
What we know from research is that rhythmic, expressive movement directly impacts our nervous system regulation. When we dance to nostalgic music—like the 90s playlist, also fueling these rad outfits—we’re activating multiple therapeutic pathways simultaneously:
1 Physical release of muscular tension where we store stress and trauma
2 Bilateral stimulation similar to EMDR therapy as we move across our body’s midline
3 Increased heart rate variability, a key marker of emotional resilience
4 Disruption of ruminative thought patterns through present-moment embodiment
5 Social connection when shared (even virtually) combats isolation
From a mental health perspective, the 90s soundtrack is particularly effective because it often connects us to memories from developmental periods when we felt safe or joyful.
My recommendation: 10-15 minutes of unstructured movement daily, preferably to music that evokes positive emotional states. No performance necessary—your body intuitively knows how to process emotion through movement.
So, what 90s (or any other decade) song reliably shifts your emotional state? I’d love to hear in the comments below!. 🎵

Today, on World Kindness Day, let’s take a moment to reflect on how small acts of kindness can have a powerful impact not only on others but on our own mental health. Research shows that kindness has a ripple effect: it releases “feel-good” hormones, reduces stress, and creates a sense of connection and community. Whether it’s offering a smile, sharing a compliment, or lending a helping hand, these gestures can boost our own sense of well-being and resilience.

For first responders, who carry the weight of others’ struggles, practicing kindness can be a meaningful way to lighten the mental load. Today, let’s each aim to do one kind act—big or small. Your kindness might be the spark that makes someone’s day, and it’s a simple yet powerful way to nurture our own mental health too.

So excited to officially announce I will be working with Pamper Your Mind in the Family office to provide in person services! If you are seeking services for your child or adolescent, I have immediate openings and would love to schedule an intake at our Suntree Office!

Jesse Intro Pamper Your Mind welcomes Jesse Weisel, LMHC to the family office practice! She is now accepting pediatric patients,

Imagine this: You’ve been saving up to buy yourself a certain coat. You love it. You’ve been thinking about it for weeks. You go to the store to get it and the salesperson says, “Oh! We don’t have that one anymore. But look at all the ones we DO have!” You groan and whine, “What? No!!”

Are you “ungrateful”? Or are you... disappointed?

“Un-feelings” aren’t a thing. Ungratefulness is not a helpful framework because we are focusing on what a child’s experience isn’t instead of what a child’s experience is.

Let’s re-frame things: “My child has trouble regulating frustration and disappointment... hm, is this true for my child outside of gifts too? Is this true when working on hard projects? Can I help her with this, not for the sole purpose of having less cringe-worthy gift moments but to build distress-tolerance skills for multiple areas of life?”

NOW we are onto something. It is us and our child against a problem. We can see our kid as a good kid and ourselves as a good parent, and from here we can make change.

What a great reminder for parents (and everyone else) as we approach the giftgiving time of year. no matter the holiday you are celebrating, remember that emotions are innate, but words for them are not.
Thank you Dr. Becky at Good Inside for this wonderful reminder!
