The Fed raised rates Wednesday. The target range is now 3.75% to 4.00%, the first hike in years.

Cash yields may look better for money on the sidelines. That is not a reason to rush a rollover or portfolio change off one news cycle.

The IRS issued Notice 2026-49 with guidance on rollovers between retirement plans and IRAs.

The sample direct rollover forms and procedures in the notice are optional. They are not required.

Comments are due by October 23, 2026. There is no safe harbor yet.

A question people often ask is the difference between a trustee-to-trustee direct rollover and a check made payable to the participant. That is a process distinction, not a recommendation to choose one path.

This is process education about the notice, not advice to roll over or stay put.

What questions come up for you before a rollover?

Changing jobs? Don’t auto-pilot the 401(k) you already have.

Four common paths: leave it in the old plan, move it to a new employer plan, roll it to an IRA, or cash it out. Tradeoffs differ: fees, menus, creditor protection, special plan rules. Ages 55+ who leave a job sometimes ask about the Rule of 55 (educational only; plan rules vary; not tax advice).

A fiduciary review can compare options before a move is hard to undo.

What questions come up when a job change hits your retirement accounts?

Most people assume their 401(k) catch-up contribution is coded as Roth after age 50, especially if you're earning $150,000 or more. But with new rules hitting many plans this year, a quick pay stub audit could save you from a surprise next April.

If your plan hasn't caught up with SECURE 2.0 changes, your catch-up may default to pre-tax, or simply not happen at all.

Here's what you can do right now: find the catch-up line on your latest pay stub, and look at its tax coding. Does it say Roth? Is it even there? If your plan doesn't have Roth catch-up enabled, you have options, but you need to act before Q4 closes.

Most investors fear a stock market crash. But the truth? The most expensive mistakes come from emotional reactions—selling low after a dip or chasing last year’s hottest trend. Studies show behavior-driven decisions can slash your long-term returns more than any bear market.

The good news: You can replace guesswork with data-driven discipline. Our algorithmic approach means your portfolio isn’t at the mercy of headlines or hunches.

You’ve saved, invested, and played it safe—so why does retirement still feel risky? One of the biggest retirement mistakes isn’t about picking the wrong fund. It’s letting fear or confusion steer your decisions instead of data. Most investors still pay fees they don’t see, or trust commission-based advice not fully aligned with their future. Even ‘doing nothing’ can be the wrong move when markets shift. With a fee-only fiduciary, using rules—not emotions—you can sidestep the silent mistakes that quietly erode your security.

The 4% Withdrawal Rule—Outdated or Still Useful?

Are you worried about how much you can safely withdraw from your retirement savings without outliving your money?

The 4% rule—meaning you could take $40,000 a year from a $1 million portfolio over a 30-year retirement—was never meant to be a guaranteed target. It’s a guideline, not a promise. In today’s unpredictable markets, relying solely on this rule could leave your future exposed if you don’t adapt to new realities. Knowing your actual “safe withdrawal rate” is key to protecting your family’s financial wellbeing.

If you want a clear, updated look at what the 4% rule really means for your personal situation, read the full breakdown here: https://apifinancialadvisors.com/education/safe-withdrawal-rate-retirement-planning
