After extensive research and flight-testing, the Russian Air Force has developed a new short-field landing procedure for the L-39 Albatros.
This procedure was the brainchild of Sergei Borschtkov, an instructor at the Krasnodar Higher Military Aviation Pilot's School in Maykop-Khanskaya, who realized that much of the normal landing distance of the L-39 was the result of the aircraft being fitted with low-friction tires and wheels that unhelpfully allow the aircraft to roll freely while on the ground.
He realized that if the aircraft's configuration could be modified to allow for a larger contact area between the aircraft and the ground, drag could be increased and a much shorter landing could theoretically be accomplished.
"The procedure has been tested by instructors and students at the training base for quite some time," Borschtkov said, "and we are now certain that, if properly executed, it can result in a landing distance of less than 500 meters on most surfaces, except perhaps frozen lakes."
"Our leadership has allowed this new technique to be used only on a strictly 'operationally-needed' basis," Borschtkov continued, "as it tends to increase our maintenance requirements a bit. In particular, the aircraft's belly has to be washed much more often."
Code 1 Aviation has not operationally tested this procedure and therefore does not condone it, but we hope you're having a wonderful April Fools Day.

Code 1 Aviation provides expert L-39 flight training at the customer’s location while maintaining the quality, structure, or standards our clients expect.
Using FAA-approved syllabi, we bring consistent, high-level training directly to the operator. Our team provides some of the most experienced L-39 flight instructors available anywhere.
Recent operations have included:
– Recurrent training and Flight test support in Illinois
– Aircraft delivery to Michigan and Texas
– Initial and UPRT training in Arkansas
– Aerobatic training in Florida
– Recurrent training in Tennessee
This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It is professional L-39 training delivered where and when the customer needs it, without compromise.
If a customer’s aircraft is unavailable, Code 1 can also provide a training jet.

Not all jet training is created equal.
Some programs focus on speed.
Some focus on cost.
Some focus on getting you through the course.
At Code 1 Aviation, we focus on building professionals.
With a three-day ground school, an FAA-approved syllabus, and training delivered either in Rockford or at an owner’s location, we maintain the same high standards every time. Our approach is disciplined, structured, and designed for pilots who want more than a rating — they want true proficiency.
Initial. Recurrent. UPRT. Aerobatic. Formation.
Because the real standard is not whether you passed.
It is how well you are prepared when it matters.
Code 1 Aviation
Training pilots to a higher standard.
