Sometimes our bodies learn patterns that once helped us get through difficult experiences.

Those patterns can stay with us long after the situation has changed.

We may stay alert.
Stay prepared.
Stay on guard.

Not because we’re doing something wrong.

Because our nervous systems are doing exactly what they learned to do.

Awareness isn’t about fixing yourself.

It’s about understanding your body with a little more compassion.

Many of us assume exhaustion comes from being busy.

And sometimes it does.

But sometimes exhaustion comes from something less visible.

From constantly scanning for what might go wrong.
From anticipating everyone’s needs.
From preparing for the next symptom flare.
From staying alert even during moments that should feel safe.

Over time, a body can become very good at staying ready.

This week I’ll be talking about what happens when our nervous systems spend more time preparing than resting.

When we’re overwhelmed, we often think self-care has to be elaborate.

But support can be simple.

Three slow breaths before getting out of the car.

A cup of tea without multitasking.

Five minutes with your feet elevated.

Stepping outside for fresh air.

Small moments count.

Regulation isn’t built through perfection.

It’s built through repetition.

Every Wednesday, I set aside time to do something that often feels impossible in our busy lives:

Nothing.
No agenda.
No productivity.
No expectations.

Just a quiet space to rest, breathe, think, nap, or simply be.

Today was this week’s Lunchtime Unwind.

Beginning next week, I’ll be experimenting with sharing these quiet moments on YouTube for anyone who would like a place to pause alongside me.

Have you given yourself a moment of rest this week?

We often think stress starts in our thoughts.
But many times, our body notices first.

The tight shoulders.

The restless sleep.

The shortened patience.

The fatigue that feels heavier than usual.

Learning to recognize these signals isn’t about fixing yourself.

It’s about understanding what your body has been trying to tell you.

The more we listen, the earlier we can offer support.

Sometimes support begins with something small.

A scent you enjoy.
A gentle touch.
A moment to pause.

Try this:

Roll your oil onto your inner forearms slowly and intentionally.

Then bring the heels of your hands over your eyes and take three slow, deep breaths.

Notice what changes.

Not because three breaths will fix everything.

But because small moments of support add up.

This practice is one of the opening moments from my guided meditations—a simple way to transition out of doing and into being.

What helps you pause and come back to yourself?

Many of us learned to override discomfortwithout realizing how much our environments affect us.

But the body notices.

It notices noise.Pressure.Emotional tension. The need to stay alert.

And it also notices:softnessquietcarepredictabilitysupport

Sometimes healing beginswith creating spaces where the body no longer has to brace itself constantly.
