Who says brown eggs are boring?
Look at all those beautiful shades from only 4 hens! God’s creativity in His creation even shows up in something as simple as a chickens eggs!

It has been a rough go over here lately. Too much to even get into, but we lost almost all of our original flock. Due to the kindness of some friends we were given 3 egg layers to help us get into a recovery mode. ❤️

We found our perp (coyote), unfortunately it hasn’t shown since getting its pic taken 😖

We have now had 4 chickens disappear in the span of a week. 3 on the same day. I can’t even believe how upset I am by this.

I never thought I would get that attached to these chickens. Our start was horrible and I almost got rid of them multiple times. Weve only had them about a year, and now we essentially have to start over.

We now only have 3 left, and one is broody. And unless we can find this predator I don’t know what we’re gonna do.

Farm life is hard sometimes.

When you have a broody hen and no roo, what do you do?
Well, you order some special breed eggs for her to hatch out!
Super excited about these Swedish Flower hen eggs, I’ve wanted them for a while now and can’t wait to see what we get.
Really hoping they all hatch out well!

Picture 3 is just an example of some of the potential color and pattern variations possible with the breed, but the options are nearly endless.

The Swedish Flower is a landrace. This means the birds were not selected by breeders for a specific color or feature but were allowed to naturally select. They are some of the top layers, ranking up there with the other greats like Rhode Island Red and Barred Plymouth Rock and do not slow down in the winter.

For anyone new to sourdough…

Always make sure you keep some extra discard in your fridge at all times!

That way when you accidentally kill your sourdough starter, you can bring out your discard to save the day and get the starter going again. And it is the same starter that way too!

No idea what I did, but definitely had mold growing in Sour Betty the other day, sonout she went, and now I have more Sour Betty ready and going 🤪
