Did you know kinkajous are sometimes called "honey bears"? 🍯🐻

Despite their nickname, kinkajous are actually more closely related to raccoons than bears! These fascinating animals are native to the rainforests of Central and South America and use their long, prehensile tails like an extra hand for climbing through the treetops. 🌳

Kinkajous are also nocturnal, meaning they're most active at night, and their tongues can grow up to 5 inches long to help them reach fruit, nectar, and honey. Talk about a sweet tooth! πŸ˜‹

At Lesslie Animal Hospital, we know that family comes in all shapes, sizes, and species. While dogs and cats make up many of our patients, we're always excited to meet unique companions like this one. After all, every furry family member deserves exceptional care. πŸΎπŸ’š

If it feels like your cat spends most of the day sleeping, you're not imagining things! πŸ±πŸ’€

Healthy adult cats typically sleep anywhere from 12 to 16 hours a day, and kittens and senior cats may sleep even more. Unlike humans, cats are naturally wired to conserve energy. Their wild ancestors spent a significant amount of energy hunting, so periods of long rest helped them recharge between activities.

While plenty of sleep is normal, it's important to pay attention to changes in your cat's routine. If your normally playful cat suddenly becomes withdrawn, sleeps significantly more than usual, loses interest in food, or shows other changes in behavior, it may be worth scheduling a veterinary visit.

The key isn't how much your cat sleeps. It's whether their sleeping habits have changed. Knowing what's normal for your pet can help you spot potential health concerns early. πŸ’šπŸΎ

At Lesslie Animal Hospital, your pet is more than a patient. They're family. From excited puppies and curious kittens to beloved senior companions, we care for every animal as if they were our own.

We believe great veterinary care starts with building relationships, earning trust, and providing the same compassion we'd want for our own furry family members. That's what makes our work so "paw-sitively" rewarding every day. 🐾

Mr. Bishop came to stay with us in June of 2025. Since then he has become very loved throughout the clinic and by clients as well. This sweet boy spends his days cuddling, making biscuits, and all around being adorable. We are very excited to announce that Bishop has finally found his β€œfur-ever” home! Thank you to everyone who has shown this sweet baby love, and wish him luck as he goes to his sweet family tomorrow.

Think β€œdog breath” is just part of having a pet? Think again 🐢🐱

Bad breath is often the first sign of dental disease. Plaque and tartar buildup can lead to gum infection, pain, tooth loss, and even impact the heart, liver, and kidneys if left untreated.

Most pets show subtle signs like:
β€’ Dropping food
β€’ Chewing on one side
β€’ Pawing at the mouth
β€’ Red or swollen gums
β€’ Less interest in hard treats

The good news? Dental disease is preventable and treatable when caught early 🦷

If you’ve noticed changes in your pet’s breath or eating habits, it may be time for a dental exam.
