Welcome to the S.A.V.E.S Project family Shelby Township Police Department! We are so excited to partner with another dedicated agency. We continue to work on promoting safety, awareness, and education!

Let's cheer on our partner Birmingham, MI Police Department as they participate tomorrow in the Michigan Law Enforcement Torch Run!! 🥳

Birmingham officers will be participating in the Michigan Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Michigan tomorrow morning, September 18, 2026. Please be advised that our officers, along with many other local agencies, will be running in roadways with a police es**rt. We apologize for any delay this may cause in your travels as our first responders fundraise for the amazing SOMI athletes.

We appreciate your encouragement and support for our officers, and the incredible Special Olympics Michigan organization!

Thank you Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police for allowing us to present today at your meeting! It was such a pleasure speaking with everyone and we are already working on new partnerships with several agencies. We will continue our mission spreading awareness across the state of Michigan, building our program to be the most supportive to your loved ones!

We had the privilege of speaking with several community members, register new participants, welcome new volunteers and more. We are always so grateful for the positive feedback we receive from the community.

Christina of course gave everyone their assignments and off she went to handle some important administrative tasks...like mastering a yo-yo, checking out some swat gear, splashing in puddles and soaking some of the WPD officers in the dunk tank!!

Never forget.

Children with will often go to water within a few hundred feet to half-mile, often ponds. Even children who were described as fearful of or uninterested in water have been found in water.

Caregivers: Call 911 immediately while you search the nearest water to your child's last known location.

Dispatchers: Instruct callers to search nearby water immediately while help is on the way. Those crafting the WEA alert language can use the WEA tool here: AutismWEA.org.

Community members: Search the closest body of water first.

Research by NASC's leadership shows that nearly half of children who eloped were under the supervision of someone other than a parent. Elopement can happen quickly, quietly, and during everyday moments under any type of supervision.

Prepare before an emergency:

- Search your home address online and identify nearby ponds, pools, creeks, retention basins, and other water hazards.

- Physically locate them and know how to get there quickly.

- Ask neighbors about backyard pools and other hidden water hazards.

- Inform trusted neighbors about your child's tendency to wander/elope and the connection between autism and water risk.

- Create an emergency plan before you ever need it.

Scams are on the rise! But knowledge is power!

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office is hosting FREE SCAMS (Stopping Crimes Against Macomb Seniors) presentations that provide valuable information on recognizing scams early and protecting yourself and your loved ones.

Attendees will learn about common fraud tactics, warning signs, and practical steps to stay safe and avoid becoming a victim.
