Throwback Thursday! Wegmans sauces from about 25 years back. Fun stuff.

Elvis Presley Enterprises came to us with an opportunity: They wanted to introduce The King’s music to a younger audience. Lilo and Stitch was about to hit theaters and it would include a handful of Elvis songs, so they wanted to support that somehow on their website. D&R created an online game that featured a surfboarding Elvis, jumping up to catch bananas and coconuts while avoiding rocks and sharks. And all the while, the Tennessee Troubadour’s songs played in the background. Far too often, my lack of skills left me crying in Heartbreak Hotel.

October 23rd is TV Talk Show Host day… so heeeeeere’s a throwback for you. This is one of the first projects we ever did for Hasbro and it was almost 30 years ago. Before starting the design process, we were asked by our client to play the game over the phone. That way we’d have a clearer understanding of the gameplay. John Myers did all the photography for us and that part was as much fun as the design stage!

Yesterday was Frankenstein Day 2023. Of course, thinking about Frankenstein made me think of Young Frankenstein, one of my all time favorites! If you haven’t seen it in a while, you should watch it again soon. Or at least watch some clips or read some quotes online… like this one. It really helps to see Marty Feldman in action.

Igor: Dr. Frankenstein...

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: 'Fronkensteen.'

Igor: You're putting me on.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: No, it's pronounced 'Fronkensteen.'

Igor: Do you also say 'Froaderick?'

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: No... 'Frederick.'

Igor: Well, why isn't it 'Froaderick Fronkensteen?'

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: It isn't; it's 'Frederick Fronkensteen.'

Igor: I see.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: You must be Igor. [He pronounces it 'ee-gor']

Igor: No, it's pronounced 'eye-gor.'

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: But they told me it was 'ee-gor.'

Igor: Well, they were wrong then, weren't they?

Today's Throwback Thursday is a logo idea that we developed for Hasbro over 20 years ago...

Thanks to Wikipedia, I found out that in 1873, Chester Greenwood invented the earmuff at the age of 15. He was ice skating and asked his grandma to sew fur between loops of wire. He later manufactured them in the Farmington, Maine area, which is now known as the Earmuff Capital of the World!
