God often uses the very thing that we struggle with to transform us. My words have always gotten the best of me. Some call it whit. Some call it sass. Sometimes both hit right & the room rolls in laughter. Other times I’m left biting my tongue in my cheek because I spoke without thinking. My words get angry, aggressive & too quick to respond. But, my heart soars when I use them to love those around me & lead Bible studies. I love to encourage & support. Lately God’s been working on my heart. Telling me that if I’m meant to use my words for encouragement & his glory there’s no space for them to be free falling anymore. That’s where my new favorite Bible verse comes in. Proverbs 16:24- Kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul & healthy for the body. As I soak in God’s reminder of this verse every day, I now am reminding myself & my kids to be “sweet like honey” with their words. Give it a shot, tell yourself in a moment of struggle or haste “sweet like honey”. Remind yourself of God’s desire for your tongue, words & heart. ❤️

Ever since my friend, Sarah, revealed the significance of today’s date, I eagerly await its arrival.

“March 4th. The only date of the year that gives you encouragement.”

How did I live half my life not seeing this hidden message?

Perhaps it was because I didn’t need it until March 2017, when an unexpected loss sealed sorrow into my bones. Every year, my body tells me March is coming. Grief doesn’t need a calendar.

Now that I’ve seen the hidden message, I can’t unsee it. The lover-of-words part of me looks forward to this date coming around every year.

If you need encouragement, today is the day…

I can’t tell you it’s gonna be okay,
but I can tell you the birds have something hopeful to say if you listen close.

Keep listening.

I can’t tell you how to keep your hands from shaking,
But I can tell you it’s possible to hold your own hand and be brave.

Keep holding.

I can’t tell you that you’re gonna feel warm and carefree again,
But I can tell you the sun can dry your damp spirit if you give it time.

Keep waiting.

I can’t tell you the gaping hole in your life will fill anytime soon,
But I can tell you that faith and love are space fillers.

Keep filling.

I can’t tell you that the exhaustion will subside,
But I can tell you there’s no shame in sitting down to catch your breath.

Keep breathing.

I can’t tell you that your tears will cease,
But I can tell you there’s a fight song within you, waiting to be heard.

Keep humming.

I can’t tell you the hardest days are behind you,
But I can tell you certain dates hold hidden encouragement.

March 4th is one of them.

A friend told me this two years ago, and it helped.
So today, I pass it on, in hopes that it helps you too.

Keep marching.
