This space was in the old back building at 31 Prince Street. I was a grad student at VSW from 2003-2005 and this space is where I studied historic photo processes with the amazing . Heather moved to PA and beyond and then I started teaching wet-plate here.

I have many fond memories of this space and its beautiful decrepitude! One of my earliest wet-plate images (made in this room) is currently on view as part of Alternate Paths 5 through September 27. It's a great exhibit featuring 37 artists including work by my teacher's teachers, the renowned

I had a fun time photographing Ed Downey recently. I think the first one is my favorite. But I also@like the second one a lot. The one of him in his street clothes (hat/glasses) was the first one we made. We had a good laugh over the third one in which he said he was smiling. 😂

Thanks to and Sydney for being loving new caretakers of this historic house. They are so enthusiastic they hired me to come make an ambrotype of it to add to their collection of Mud House photos. Check out their instagram, blog, and Wikipedia page to learn more about it.

When I saw them standing in front of the house in their costumes (removing the modern screen door 😂) I knew they needed to be in the house portrait.

Here is the portrait I took last Saturday of Nick and Sydney in front of their home
Nick contacted me in the spring to arrange a fall, on-location, wet-plate photo shoot as a gift for his fiancé, Sydney. He wanted an 8 x 10 portrait of their historic house and one of the two of them. ❤️

I am so happy with how it turned out! The costumes they put together worked perfectly! See adjacent post for the second plate of the house.

Beautiful weather on Saturday for an on-location photo shoot at the historic in Penfield. Thanks to my excellent assistant and to for commissioning us! Scans of the results coming soon. These costumes they put together looked perfect. ❤️
