☀️ Field Day Fun at Meadowbrook Elementary!

One of our favorite parts of Field Day is seeing schools create opportunities for every student to participate in ways that meet their individual needs.

Meadow Brook Elementary offered a dedicated sensory time during Field Day, providing a calmer environment where students could enjoy the activities with reduced noise, smaller groups, and less sensory overload. These thoughtful accommodations help ensure that all students can experience the excitement, joy, and sense of belonging that make Field Day such a special tradition!

Michigan Department of Education Office of Special Education released new guidance on Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) to support IEP teams in creating effective, individualized educational programs for students with disabilities.

The guidance emphasizes that SDI is a required part of providing a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) under IDEA and focuses on adapting instruction to meet each student’s unique needs while ensuring access to the general education curriculum.

Key areas of SDI include adapting:
• Content
• Methodology
• Delivery of instruction

The goal is to help students make meaningful academic and functional progress in the least restrictive environment and prepare for successful postsecondary outcomes.
